As far as I know theres no copyright on an open letter so I'll post the entire thing... if there is someone let me know and we can fix that in a hurry.

Dear friend,

In the last day or two, you may have seen an e-mail message purporting to come from Conservative Party President Don Plett. This message is bogus; Mr. Plett did not send out anything of the sort. Radio CKNW in Vancouver has traced this e-mail to a server in St. Petersburg, Russia, and behind that to a Liberal-friendly source in Toronto.

In the final week of the campaign, our increasingly desperate opponents are likely to resort to more of these manoeuvres. Please keep that in mind if you receive e-mail that claims to be from a Conservative source but doesn’t match your understanding of our party’s policy.

Hold the course and don’t get rattled by our opponents’ dirty tricks! Just one week to go till election day.

Sincerely,

Doug Finley

I had a feeling the Soviets were behind this trouble. Soviets are red in party colour, Liberals are red in party colour. Martin and Putin's names both end in 'in'. Seriously people, the connections are so obvious.

On a serious note... I'd like to ask, how low will the Liberals go?

1. I never saw the original letter, nor does the email quoted state its nature.

2. Nothing at all about this on http://www.cknw.com

3. It looks like a bogus story made up to slam the Liberals.

I almost would agree. Doesn't make much sense to just send it out to party members though?

Also, it doesn't look like there would be anywhere to put that kinda thing on that messy website. If it was there I probably wouldn't even see it.

I wasn't one to receive it either. I'm just passing on the good old letter.

Peter Warren was all over it on the weekend. Can't remember which day. One of those hidden agenda things supposedly from a Conservative party operative. A BC government computer type traced it as far as St. Petersburg. I didn't hear any reference to a Toronto source but neither did I hear the whole segment. I can't listen to the guy for too long.

It would be in the audio archives on the CKNW site if anyone wants to take the time to listen to his weekend shows.

Even I couldn't listen to Warren if he had the meaning of life in one of his shows.

I found this blog entry that I assume talks about the bogus email you're referring to:

I wouldn't assume the Liberal Party itself is behind such an idea, but supporters of all political parties can get into trouble if they've got too much time on their hands.
