CdnFox Posted February 12, 2024 Report Posted February 12, 2024 https://www.hilltimes.com/story/2024/02/12/in-the-game-of-margins-gender-identity-could-become-trudeau-liberals-achilles-heel-in-the-next-election-say-political-players/411076/ Political insiders say the gender identity and trans rights issue may not be a defining one in the next election, but it could dampen the enthusiasm of some minority communities, such as Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, Chinese, and Eastern European immigrant communities that tend to be socially conservative, and that have previously voted for the Liberals. “Although this issue is initiated by [Alberta Premier] Danielle Smith, it will be a key battle line between Justin Trudeau and [Conservative Leader] Pierre Poilievre,” said Nik Nanos, chief data scientist for Nanos Research. “We have to remember that the broader context for Canadians is that they’re struggling to pay for housing, and they’re struggling to pay for groceries. I’m not sure how enthusiastic Canadians are going to be to have their elected officials focus on issues other than those two things.” So - most people won't care when they're worried about food, and those who do care will most likely be against trudeau and they used to be his supporters. Which means even if they just stay at home in protest it hurts him badly. And of course it's a long time to the election - most will have forgotten about this and stopped caring but the people who are social conservative on this issue will not likely forget. This could be a bit of a bud lite moment for trudeau. This could wind up blowing up in his face quite a bit. The lastest abacus poll has pp about 20 points ahead of the liberals. That could be an outlier but damn ............ Quote "That which doesn't kill me... Had better start running."
Guest Posted February 12, 2024 Report Posted February 12, 2024 I think covid-19 will surprise a lot of people. Its made people and youth, incredibly apathetic. So his lecturing tone he often takes, may grate people who were told what to do for a couple years. I am part of the alphabet mafia, so I of course will always side with the right of a gay couple to marry, trans rights and most Canadians will too. Where I think many draw the line, is at how far its been jumped over. Tampons in male washrooms? Lambasting parents for wishing for their kids not to have certain age inappropriate things taught to them for being alt-right, MAGA, is you insulting the intelligence of your constituents. However, PP isn't a Saint, so you know close to election that Trudeau will attack heavily and furiously, using his lack of backing of Ukraine, trans rights and the like as wedge points. Quote
