Israel’s Justice Ministry published a list of 300 Palestinian prisoners eligible for release. Thirty-nine — 24 women, including some convicted of attempted murder for attacks on Israeli forces, and 15 teenagers jailed for offenses like throwing stones — were expected to be freed Friday, Palestinian authorities said.

Interesting that convicted murderers and hooligans are among the numbers being realeased on Hamas' side while everyone on Israel's side is probably STILL reeling from getting blindsided in October.

There are now thought to be more than 6,000 Palestinians held by Israel on security grounds - many still awaiting trial.

Their 'leaders' haven't allowed an election in 16 years. Hamas is a conservative right-wing organization whose emergence and ascendency were supported by conservative right-wing Israeli governments to counter a secular progressive trend that was becoming well established amongst Palestinians.

This conservative disdain for democracy by Hamas is also apparent amongst Israel's right-wing judging by the largest protests in Israel's history in the year prior to Oct 7.

What are people so angry about?

Mr Netanyahu's opponents say the reforms will severely undermine the country's democracy by weakening the judicial system, the only tool for keeping the government's use of its powers in check.

Underlying this is strong opposition to the kind of government currently in office - the most right-wing in Israel's history - and to Mr Netanyahu himself.
