CdnFox Posted November 20, 2023 Report Posted November 20, 2023 https://nationalpost.com/opinion/canadians-climate-change In a recent Angus Reid Institute survey, Canadians were asked which political party they would prefer to manage the country’s climate change file. The winner was the Conservative Party of Canada; 28 per cent wanted the Tories, against 14 per cent who wanted the Liberal status quo. But under Poilievre, there are no emissions targets and and he hasn’t released a climate change strategy. The party’s chief issue is abolishing the carbon tax, and whenever someone asks what policy will replace it, the Tory answer is “technology.” “Small modular nuclear reactors, hydroelectric dams, tidal wave power and other emissions-free energy … get the government out of the way and speed up approvals to green-light green projects,” said Poilievre earlier this month. And if polls are to be believed, none of this is holding back the Tories’ massive surge in popularity. After years of received wisdom that a Conservative could not become Canadian prime minister without an aggressive emissions plan, Poilievre is on course for one of the biggest landslides in the country’s history. Now, when Canadians are asked to rank their top concerns, the top spot is a duel between “economy” and “cost of living” — with climate change lucky if it can crack the top five. This is even true of young people; the one demographic that can usually be trusted to worry about the environment Carbon pricing was broadly popular when Trudeau took office; one survey had 56 per cent of Canadians supporting a price on emissions. As support has dwindled, it’s dropped in almost perfect tandem with the rate of Canadians actually paying the carbon tax. This was most dramatic in Atlantic Canada, where good feelings on carbon pricing screeched to a halt on July 1 when it became the country’s last region added to the federal carbon pricing scheme. CdnFox Posted November 20, 2023 Author Report Posted November 20, 2023 So - why is the CPC seen as the best choice on climate change? Three things. 1 - people believe no party will actually do anything useful but the cpc won't charge people as much to do nothing. 2 - Nobody worries about what the weather will be like in 2100 when they can't afford heat today. 3 - You can't scare people with the same boogie man for ever. You either have to start producing real results or stop pretending it's serious. I have spoken about this for years. If you keep promising and never delivering, people eventually give up on it. If you also CHARGE them for doing nothing, then they REALLY get fed up on it. By voting for the liberals who constantly promise but do nothing (chretien's stated position after her retired) the liberal voters have absolutely killed the likelyhood of any serious action on climate change taking place. They won all the battles but lost the war. Quote There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data

I remember a CNN interview with then Ugandan president, about his lack of progress regarding the LGBTQ community. He was blunt. It has no importance to his country's population. Woke talking points like pronouns mean nothing, if people are literally facing the threat of famine. Joblessness. Pollution in proper perspective, will be low on the priority list. Nobody in such countries will care about pronouns, as this is a cause for those who are privileged enough to fight it. Imagine, feeling entitled to people caring about how you feel inside. I see weather as no different. I have a family, and a roof to keep on top of their heads, and rising costs of living squeezing me tighter every year. Fix that first, then think of expanding your vision on climate change. People tend to buy into things when they don't have far more pressing things drowning them. Quote

Fix that first, then think of expanding your vision on climate change. People tend to buy into things when they don't have far more pressing things drowning them. And when the issue was already supposed to have been 'Fixed' - it's a double wammy of "i'm sick of talking about it, i thought we handled that AND I can't afford to think about this now'. It's not the only issue that will be suffering from this phenomenon. Overdose deaths are quickly going that route - people are worried about themselves and the money spent on safe supply has been a complete waste. Now the public interest in the problem is near zero. There are serious problems with these social experiments like carbon tax and safe supply. If they don't work it's not like you can just try something else. You could lose the opportunity to do anything at all. That's why it's so dangerous when the left wing latches onto an idea because 'muh feels' and runs with it even tho it's not likely to succeed.
