Posthaste: If you think you're worse off than before the pandemic you're probably right

Productivity is going into reverse — a problem for all Canadians

Canada has a productivity problem.

This isn’t news, points out BMO chief economist Douglas Porter. Canada has lagged the United States for decades, but in recent years this underperformance has reached the point where productivity in this country is actually declining — and it’s dragging real GDP per capita down with it.

“GDP per hour worked is the very fundamental building block of living standards, said Porter in a recent report. “Thus, the recent fall in productivity is stark evidence that Canadians on average are worse off than prior to the pandemic — it’s not just perception.”

Canada has fallen below, not only the United States, but also most of Western Europe and Australia on the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development ranking for productivity. And OECD data only go up until 2021, said Porter. Canadian productivity has fallen since then.

We need to be clear here.  This isn't "the pandemic".  Other countries similar to ours are doing far better.

And this greatly magnifies the effect of inflation.  We cannot get paid more than what we produce, so if our workers produce less then they get paid less and inflation hurts even more.

This is very very difficult to recover from.  It requires low taxes - which means substantially cutting spending which is a problem in canada. It means giving businesses real incentive which sets the lefties howing with rage ( HOW DAAARE busineses make money? Also - where are the good paying jobs going?)

The young kids today know we're in trouble which is why they're turning to the CPC. When times are tough - turn to the tories.

But - i don't think they have any idea how bad it is. It's FAR worse than what most people think. This is a DIRECT result of trudeau's policies, our productivity and quality of life was improving at the end of harper's time and that was with a massive recession for much of his time in office.

We have got to be talking about this with friends family coworkers - people need to understand that FAR FAR more than the climate crisis - this situation is going to impact canadians and their ability to live in the next 30 years.
