Rovik Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 The Conservatives would reverse the tax cut given to low income earners this year. Yet, they are pushing for corporate tax cuts. Two things here. First, it's funny how they are keeping this under wraps and not bringing it up in the campaign and secondly, it seems that the Conservatives would rather give tax cuts to corporations rather than low income earners. Would this be a taste of things to come if they came into power. Scary..... Here's a link to the story: Link Quote
fellowtraveller Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 From the link: The Tories have also said that their own tax package has not yet been fully announced. This one line and one line only is yet another illustration of why the CBC is a national disgrace. I watched both CBC and CTV coverage of this last night. The CTV correctly noted that the Tories had not yet announced their full strategy, and this info would be integrated into a fuller package. The CBC made it their co-lead story, and glossed over the Kenny remarks that : we have much more to come. Stand by. Quote The government should do something.

I mean, this is the network that reported that Americans don't know what date squares are. Only under the anti-Americal Liberal government could the CBC use my tax dollars to present this incredibly important fact which isn't even true... Anyway, Saturday, January 7, 2006 Posted at 11:38 AM EST Canadian Press Ottawa — Conservative Leader Stephen Harper says his government would reverse Liberal tax cuts for low-income earners passed just before the election was called. But Mr. Harper suggested he'll offer his own tax package for middle- and low-income Canadians on top of the two-per-cent cut in the GST promised last month. He offered few details during a campaign stop in New Hamburg, Ont. Tories to repeal low-income tax cuts He had few details to offer because he got caught with his pants down affter Kenny shot his mouth off. They're making something up right now. There's another thread on this, and the CBC has posted a partial apology to its disengenuous article. "Our priority is broader and deeper tax relief than what the Liberals are willing to offer," Kenney told CBC News Online. "We would suspend [the Liberals] future measures in order to deliver broad-based and responsible tax relief, which will ultimately save Canadians more in their taxes and will be affordable in terms of the delivery of federal services," the release said. "The immediate result of cutting the GST will be $4.5 billion back in the pockets of ordinary Canadians. When the GST cut is fully implemented, the total benefit will be much greater," the release said. Kenney said they voted against the Liberal tax cuts because they disagreed with their fiscal priorities, adding they would have "spent smarter and cut taxes deeper." The Tories have also said that their own tax package has not yet been fully announced Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province
fellowtraveller Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 The CBC has one agenda: Liberal dictatorial government and that is it... I'd give them more credit than that, though the real reason is totally crass. They have one agenda, and that is to survive. They know that sooner or later any fiscally responsible government is going to look at the riduclous $1 billion they get annually in subsidies and say: no more. Much more likely to happen with the Tories than the Libs. Ah, you can't dispute the fact of the article, so you attack the source Well, I'm the source of the info on the presentation of the info by CTV and CBC. Very very different level of emphasis on the same info. Call me a liar if you like, but that is the way it was, as evidenced by the linked story. Quote The government should do something.
stignasty Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 The Tories refused to be interviewed on camera for the story. But Kenney later told CBC News Online Friday that this information is not new and referred to Harper's Dec. 1 news release regarding the GST cut. "We would suspend [the Liberals] future measures in order to deliver broad-based and responsible tax relief, which will ultimately save Canadians more in their taxes and will be affordable in terms of the delivery of federal services," the release said. Tory plan would scrap Liberal tax cut on low income earners My issue isn't with the story, but the attack of the CBC as a result. How is this unfair to the Conservatives? shoop Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 Why two threads on the same topic? This represents a "hidden agenda"? No wonder the Liberals are losing this campaign. Quote

I don't support the CBC though I'll be watching Hockey Day while I clean my house. I REALLY hope Cherry doesn't get political. tml12 Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 Last night I was watching CBC and during their advertisements for "The National" they showed two shots of Layton and Martin and only one of Harper. Plus they had commercials about "average" Canadians taking on "evil" corporations. No, they don't have a hidden agenda there.
