Dear writing:

As the father of an 18 year old I'll give you my hints:

Talk to your family. whats important to them is almost certainly important to you.

Decide what is important to you and do research on what the parties represent.

If after deciding what is important to you you realize:

The system isn't fair and people are hurting, you're an NDP.

The environment is in crisis and the sky could fall tommorrow, you're a green.

The world is full of gravy and you're not getting enough, you're a liberal.

To many people are getting away with too much, you're a conservative.

I hope you found this helpful.

Nice advice Slim :)

I agree and your labling of parties was quite fair.

I really hate to resort to any mudslinging, though when someone's defense of the current situation (a government under investigation by the RCMP), is calling the opposition leader a social retard, it just becomes so tempting.
Oh, come on... you CPC types have a hard time holding it back, so let's hear it.....
Remember, Martin is the one that had the Americans fusing after lecturing them on the environment, when his party has been a complete and utter failure on the issue. As far as I know, being a hypocrit is about the least socially acceptable thing you could do.
Let them fume.... they like fumes... Bush said he didn't want to do anything about the impending crisis because it would "wreck our economy" to try to do something...
Carrolyn Parrish stepped on a doll of Geroge Bush.
As a joke on TV... perhaps she should have restrained herself to uttering comments like "What an idiot..." that pretty much the whole world would agree with...
How many Liberals have been caught utter anti-American remarks.
Many well placed.... and I'm sure some of the were over the line....
So please, because Harper didn't shake Duceppes hand, we shouldn't vote for him? Yet we should vote for the Party with a huge record of public disrespect?
I guess the CPC's disrespect for homosexuals, blacks, single mothers, and the poor isn't a negative thing ???

Let's not forget Harper's speech on the world stage about how stupid Canadian are... I guess they'd prove him correct if they elected him....

The only way Canadians will be seen as stupid on the world stage is if they elect this corrupt and divisive Liberal Party. This is a party that is so arrogant, so corrupt, and so full of hypocrisy that they cannot even figure out where they are as a party.

Just today I read in the paper that the Liberals are so confused that Martin's advisers are leaking information. Pro-Private Care ex-Reform Liberal MP Keith Martin wouldn't stand with Martin while he was in BC while Martin was spinning his "save public care" BS that neither he nor anyone else in the Liberal Party know they can save.

Yes I am voting Conservative...Tories ahead 36-30 in the polls. Good to see that more Canadians are interested in saving this country.

writing to reach you,

If you're looking for a decent breakdown of the issues, herre is a good source:

http://www.ctv.ca/mini/election2006/static/issues/index.html

Of course, you should never rely on just one source, so here is a couple of others:

http://www.cbc.ca/canadavotes/leadersparties/

http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Politics/CanadaVotes/home.html

There are others out there as well. I would suggest you attend the local candidates debate. Maybe take some notes, decide which of them you feel you would want representing you in Ottawa.

And finally, don't let any of the "arguments" on this board sway you.

IMHO, their really is no one worth voting for in this election. The Liberals lie. The Conservatives lie. The NDP lies. In reality, the only goal of ANY politician is to attain, or stay in power.

Regards

Interesting. The first two posts included a question and a platform. The rest has been four pages of wrangling over that one platform. Does anyone else have a platform or is this it?

Hope you get your question answered somewhere.

If you have read any of the threads, TM12, you will kniw that my experience of Quebec politics and its issues goes deeper than anyone you could read on the forum. My involvement extended to being the Vice President of a small purpose founded political party in Quebec.

The Liberal Party is not responsible for all the powers that have devolved to Quebec. The Constitution gave the powers. It is the Conservative party that has increased the mood in Quebec not the Liberals. It was Mulroney with Meech and Charlottetown that whetted the appetite that is craving now.

It wouldn't be a little organization called Option Canada would it?

And tell me, how deep does the rabbit hole go Eureka? I gotta tell ya just reading your post gave me goosebumps. I can almost hear the X-Files music playing....

There are people out there running in this election who are worth voting for. unfortunately because it makes it more difficult for people, they aren't running for any particular party. They are running for reasons that include making Canada a better place. There is no such thing as a corrupt party. however there are parties being handled by people who want to get near power for their own purposes. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

But more insidious is the notion that Power attracts the corrupt and the corruptible. go out and ignore the parties and vote for the best person, the least dishonest appearing, the one with a vision beyond his/her own nose, watch who is supporting the various candidates and try to figure where there allegiances will lie if they get to power. And have fun, it only comes along every 18 months or so.

They are responsible for enough of them as was Mulrooney...all Quebec PMs who governed with a complete disregard for the benefit of Canada and, in giving Quebec what it wanted, boosted separatist fortunes in Quebec.

I am voting Conservative because I am standing up for Canada. If you live in Quebec you understand how many "children of Bill 101" as Landry called them are separatists. Canada doesn't work for them because neither Mulrooney nor his Liberal sucessors has seriously tried to keep Quebec in Canada. Instead they bribe francophone Quebecers (or, as Chretien did, just buy off the elections with dirty money) who see right through the BS.

Harper may not the greatest, but Canada needs fresh blood at 24 Sussex.

As for Trudeau, he had the guts to deal with the separatists. He has my respect (although I am not crazy about all his socialist policies).

No, it was not Option Canada, IMR. It was long before that. And it did more than Trudeau to keep Levesque in his place.
