willy Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Martin will announce huge direct payments to students tomorrow. Total spending in the billions. Bye Bye surplus. $3000.00 per student over 4 years. With them giving money straight to students, what is to stop cash strapped universities from raising tuition to eat into this bonus. Thoughts? hiti Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Some students can now get grants and that hasn't increased tuition fees. At least it's not a bonus given to parents and called education help for university students. $3000 over four years is not very much. Who sets the tutition fees for universities? Federal or provincial? Quote "You cannot bring your Western standards to Afghanistan and expect them to work. Thoughts? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> His education spending in total amounts to billions, and I just read he's rolling out a copycat CPC agenda new spending in health care. My gawd, why didn't he do some of this before, why wait until the election to give it back. Pay for patient to travel: Liberal wait-time strategy similar to Conservatives Allan Woods and Elizabeth Thompson, CanWest News Service Published: Thursday, January 05, 2006 VICTORIA - Billions of dollars in election promises were aimed at Canada's health care woes yesterday as the Liberals unveiled a plan to address waiting times and deal with an expected increase in cancer cases, while New Democrats pledged to create a national drug program. Paul Martin laid out the Liberal health platform with a guarantee that patients will receive timely medical care, something he billed as the "logical conclusion" to more than a year of work with provincial governments to improve medicare. The plan was similar to a program the Conservatives unveiled, although the pledges vary somewhat in details. Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province
PocketRocket Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 My gawd, why didn't he do some of this before, why wait until the election to give it back. You actually need to ask that question??? Granted, the general public's memory is very short, but all these things coming down the pipe right now are making Martin look exceedingly transparent. Quote I need another coffee
Biblio Bibuli Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 You actually need to ask that question??? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry for disrupting, PocketRocket, but with a name like yours I need to ask ... 1 - Who's going to win the gold medal? ........ I say the Canuckskis. 2 - Is Marc Crawford's ass on the line? ........ I say yes. 3 - Who did Slavik bet on? ........................... I say that that turkey bet the U.S.. Biblio Bibuli Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Liberal wait-time strategy similar to Conservatives <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No no no no no no! Martin's strategy is only to send the patients to a public facility in another province. The use of private options is forbidden, as is travel to U.S. clinics and hospitals. My question is ... which Premier would be so suicidal as to allow out of province patients to leapfrog over his own? None will! In other words ... Martin's promises are, as always, empty promises. He must think that Canadians are dumb as sacks of hammers. CPC ....... 156 (beat it Willy.) fellowtraveller Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 My question is ... which Premier would be so suicidal as to allow out of province patients to leapfrog over his own? None will! All of them do it now. Edmontons transplant center treats people from all over. There used to be a liver transplant place in London that did the same, don't know if it is still there. It is based on need and suitability, not so much where you're from, though your ability to survive the journey is a factor. Quote The government should do something.
