August1991 Posted April 5, 2023 Report Posted April 5, 2023 The US Constitution, when written, had 10 amendments. They are known as the Bill of Rights. These amendments restrict the power/control of the State. Our federal Prime Minister, Pierre Trudeau, admired the US Constitution. In Canada in 1982, we changed our UK BNA Act - our Constitution - and added a Charter of Rights. Quote
August1991 Posted April 5, 2023 Author Report Posted April 5, 2023 Contrarian, We and the US differ in so many ways. But IMHO Trudeau Snr tried to restrict the power of the central government. He preferred counterweights. Quote But Quote

August1991 Posted April 8, 2023 Author Report Posted April 8, 2023 I think the US Second Amendment is insane. Our Constitution Act is also crazy: compare. -- 3 Every citizen of Canada has the right .... 7 Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of the person Quote
August1991 Posted May 6, 2023 Author Report Posted May 6, 2023 Increasingly. I agree with Pierre Trudeau. As individuals, our best protection is a State with counterweights. Quote
