tml12 Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 http://washingtontimes.com/commentary/2005...81526-4938r.htm <{POST_SNAPBACK}> MY COMMENTS: 1) The Washington Times is a VERY right-wing paper. I was in DC on business (and I think that Shoop said he lived in DC at one time) a few weeks back and when I started reading the editorials (oh man...) 2) No way a Martin majority government is centre-left. It would be socially moderate and economically right for sure. And U.S. relations? Same as with Harper. 3) I think that a Harper government would not be all that "scary." I think Harper understands, like Blair and Bush, that the system of government in Canada needs to be changed to bring in free enterprise. 4) If I vote for Harper, it will be because we need to stop the spread of protectionism and socialism and corruption present in Canada today and give way to a leader who will be moral, sensible, and strong. Leafless Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 It makes me cringe to think when I read " A Harper victory may prove to be the exception to the International rule- A rare foreign event that manges to put a smile on George W. Bush's face." Canada seen as a socialist foreign country catering to the likes of drugs and homosexuals is not exactly my cup of tea either. Canada has progressed under Liberal rule from a once proud country to that emulating a banana republic but still clinging to capitalism for it's survival mocking democractic concerns but guided in a totalitarian way. Hopefully the New Year will present Canadians with a return to what Canada was previously- A proud little country who knows it's best friends and neighbours are the good old U.S.A. Quote
Black Dog Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 I wonder: is the enthusiastic endorsement of a pro-Bush newspaper owned by a cult really what the Cons need? Is Stephen Harper a Moonie? If I was the Liberals, I'd be all over his one like a dirty shirt: "Gift from Canada"? More like "Gift to Martin"? Quote

The Liberals should quote this story non-stop for the next two months, if they want to smear Harper. It's no secret that I'm a fan of America and I've supported many of GWB's leadership decisions, but I'm a realist about how the average Canadian feels about Bush. This article plays right into the Liberals hands. Quote "And, representing the Slightly Silly Party, Mr. Kevin Phillips Bong." * * * "Er..no. Harper was elected because the people were sick of the other guys and wanted a change. Don't confuse electoral success (which came be attributed to a wide variety of factors) with broad support. That's the surest way to wind up on the sidelines." - Black Dog

Whoa. Crazy stuff. 2) A Martin majority govt would be a centre-left govt. Socially, they are leftwing (legalize pot, prostitution, change the 2000 year definition of marriage, pro-UN and Kyoto), and would be centre-left economically with their govt-run daycare centres, refusal to change the law making it illegal for private citizens to have the option of private haelthcare, and discriminatory taxcuts (for the unproductive only) The Washinton Times is a fine newspaper and this article by a senior fellow from the highly respectable Cato Institute is spot on. Edited to add: Here is an example of the kooky editorials one comes across in the Washington Post. Today they editorialized the legalization of the radical Islamic Muslim Brotherhood.
