What was fringe, mainstream. Wildly partisan types now think of themselves as moderates. And it reminds me of the famous Breitbart quote, "Politics is downstream from culture." Culture is changing and politics will exploit any new advantage. The old political pendulum seems more like a wrecking ball these days. When did reactionaries start believing that piling on and adding momentum was the solution? Non-partisans are too busy ducking and trying to get out of the way. My own Overton Window moves up and down not back and forth. Between what's acceptable and not acceptable in terms of the government's advantages.
