A month ago, under a Hong Kong TV Youtube channel, which was reporting that Trump said American doctors and nurses should disinfect and reuse their disposable masks, I joked that if the situation got worse, Trump would suggest Americans to drink disinfectant to kill virus.

One month later, the situation in US did get worse and Trump did say Americans should drink disinfectant to kill virus....

The reason why you should not use disinfectants on N95 masks is that disinfectants may damage the filtration material. N95 masks also have electrostatic adsorption layers to filtrate small particles. Disinfectants may also discharge the statics charges and make these masks less effective on filtrating small particles.
