mirror Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 Gomery delay likely to push election back The Gomery inquiry's final report into the sponsorship program is expected to come in six weeks late, likely killing off the possibility of a midwinter election, The Globe and Mail has learned.Mr. Justice John Gomery had set a target date of Dec. 15 for his final report, but now he is aiming to release it on Feb. 1. The inquiry is planning to issue a news release today announcing the delay. The inquiry is explaining the six-week delay by the huge influx of responses to Judge Gomery's call for public input into his recommendations to the government. Hundreds of responses to Judge Gomery's request for submissions are arriving every week by mail and through the Internet. The Bloc and the Tories will probaly push for an election right after the Nov 1. Once again it will up to the NDP to decide or not if we ae going to have an election. I wonder what Layton will be able to fanagle out of Martin this time. Quote

Nobody wanted a winter election. A spring election gives the CPC and the BQ that much longer to hammer Dithers et. al over the contents of Gomery. Quote

Canuck E Stan Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 At that point(Spring) the "booming" economy may show the cost of high gas prices and the high dollar. This would definately effect Ontario and it's manufacturing sector. Martin would probably want the election sooner than later. Quote "Any man under 30 who is not a liberal has no heart, and any man over 30 who is not a conservative has no brains." — Winston Churchill
