mirror Posted September 3, 2005 Author Report Posted September 3, 2005 Good article kimmy. Canadians need to get a better grasp of their history, especially of Western Canada. It's kinda hard to do when Toronto is the centre of the universe! Quote
Black Dog Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 Why would Ralph get drunk and throw money at a homeless person and tell them to get a job like everyone else? Why would he say that people on AISH (assisted income for the severly handicapped) didn't look handicapped to him so they should quit complaining that their $850 / month payment was too little? Why would he openly push the Canada Health Act to the point of massive fines / penalties by the feds? The bottom line is he doesn't want to do it, but go ahead and play chicken with him and see if he blinks... See Ralph can make a Grade A jackass of himself in public or pick fights with the feds and get away with it because he knows how to play the people of Alberta against the "other". However, people would be a helluva lot less forgiving if he started costing them jobs and livliehoods. Give your head a shake. What you don't seem to appreciate is that economic suicide for Alberta is really murder-suicide because Canada goes down with us...that's why Ralph has the hammer on this issue...coming after Alberta's resources is economic (and therefore political) suicide for Paul Martin and he knows it. It would be political suicide for him too. Ralph's many things: self-destructive (well, politically) ain't one of 'em. Quote
Guest eureka Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 Not really such a good article. It simply repeats the "grievances" put forth by the Provincialists. It ignores that Central Canada bore most of the costs associated with the development and support of the Provinces that were in effect little more than territories still to the time that they were cut loose. It was not condescenscion at all. Perhaps it should be said again that those resources belonged to Central Canada until they were given to the new provinces. It is quite natural that there would be some reluctance to give away the heritage for the "mess of potage" that Canada has received in return. Quote
