THELIBERAL Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 So it looks like Harper ""DID KNOW"" what Grewal was doing was wrong YET he kept standing up for the sleaze!!! Wow!!!! http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...Story/National/ Grewal ignored Harper order By BRIAN LAGHI Friday, July 29, 2005 Updated at 5:00 AM EDT From Friday's Globe and Mail Ottawa — Conservative MP Gurmant Grewal continued to secretly tape talks with a Liberal Party official over the possibility of switching parties last May even though he says his own leader told him to stop. Probably went something like this :::: Harper:: " If you don't stop I'm warning you I'll give you a senate appointment IF WE ever get elected!!!" Quote
Argus Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 So it looks like Harper ""DID KNOW"" what Grewal was doing was wrong YET he kept standing up for the sleaze!!! Wow!!!! I think you're confused - again. The sleaze was in corrupt, lying, thieving Liberals trying to bribe Grewal into joining their party in order to win a vote. Regardless of why Grewal taped things, and why there were initial cuts there is no doubt just how sleazy and dirty and corrupt the Liberals were who were involved in trying to bribe him and his wife to come over. But the sleaze over there wasn't on the part of one virtually unknown MP but the PMO, the Prime Minister, and a member of his cabinet. The point is Harper knew this was sleaze and he told Grewal to stop doing it YET he still stuck up for the sleaze. Why is it so difficult for you to see the problem with this? Is it because 2 Conservatives are involved including your leader? Harper:: " If you don't stop I'm warning you I'll give you a senate appointment IF WE ever get elected!!!" Quote
mirror Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Actually Harper asked Grewal not to tape record the prime minister which sounds quite honourable to me. I think the Martin Liberals need to stop with the smear campaign against the Conservatives and focus more on their own internal party problems like possibly replacing PM Martin as leader before the next election, if they they entertain any hope of forming another majority government again. The loser from what I see in the polls is none other than PM Martin. Rating Falls Again for Canada’s Martin (Angus Reid Global Scan) – Paul Martin continues to lose public backing in Canada, according to a poll by Environics Research Group. 41 per cent of respondents approve of the prime minister’s performance, a 10 per cent drop since January.Martin took over as Canada’s prime minister in December 2003. In the June 2004 election, his Liberal party secured a minority government with 135 seats in the House of Commons. Last year, Martin called a public inquiry into the federal sponsorship program—initiated during the tenure of prime minister Jean Chrétien to promote Canada in Quebec—after auditor-general Sheila Fraser concluded that approximately $75 million U.S. of the program’s budget was paid to Liberal-friendly advertising firms for little or no work. New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jack Layton is the best-rated federal political leader. 57 per cent of respondents approve of Layton’s performance, a five per cent increase in six months. Quote
THELIBERAL Posted July 29, 2005 Author Report Posted July 29, 2005 Another Conservative no doubt that didn't get my point! WOW!!! Quote

No, I think the point was that Martin claimed he hadn't a clue anything was going on but his chief of staff told Grewal he was highly interested and ready for a meeting. Typical lying Liberal. I think the requirement for advancement in the Liberal party is that nobody ever catches you telling the truth about anything. Canuck E Stan Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Harper:: " If you don't stop I'm warning you I'll give you a senate appointment IF WE ever get elected!!!" Harper would never use a line like that, it's actually been used by the Libs too many times. 56% of Canadians say that Pauly is good for ship, and should walk the plank. time for the Libs to send their captain Big P on shore leave. Give it up THELIBERAL,your captain can't navigate. Quote "Any man under 30 who is not a liberal has no heart, and any man over 30 who is not a conservative has no brains." — Winston Churchill
shoop Posted August 7, 2005 Report Posted August 7, 2005 Hmmm, two sides to every issue. Before this revelation Harper is bad for authorizing the taping. Now he is bad for showing loyalty to a member of his team, admittedly a dude with a few issues. In hindsight, Harper should have distanced himself right away. Definitely would have been the crass political move. i.e. the Liberal move. In reality, he is the leader of a party that is trying to heal internal wounds and maybe showing a little loyalty will help him in the long run. Besides distancing himself the day of the revelation costs him Grewal's vote at a time when Cadman still could have supported him. Loyalty, ever heard of that one Paul? Who needs it when you can back-stab and claw your way into a weak minority government and be mocked internationally as Mr. Dithers. Best case you serve two terms as a weak minority government Prime Minister. Kinda sad for the man that his legacy will be what he has already done in a different job. Quote
