Yes, and I have no problem with people living THEIR LIVES as they see fit, so long as it doesn't interfear with other's rights. I can't remember who it was but another poster said it well in another thread, that Christians seem to think its their duty to police the world and to make all believe as they do, they can't seem to accept the fact that other people believe something they don't. That's why I chose a religion that respects the beliefs of others.

You're missing the entire point. This political step only serves to villify the religious institutions that are opposed to same-sex marriage. The rhetoric by the supporters paints these religions and these people who believe in family values as human rights violators. SSM is NOT a human right, but a legal right. There are very few people that don't believe homoesexuals should have equality before the law. What is a human right violation is the government putting through a law that will force changes on religions by basically condemning them for their actions. We do still have a human right that allows freedom of religion and granted people aren't being arrested for their beliefs (until churches start denying same-sex marriages/receptions), but the government is negatively painting almost every world religion.

Heterosexual marriage isn't a "human right" either, it's a legal right. Human rights are things such as not being discriminated on based on race, gender, age, etc. And as far as religions being attacked because of their views I agree with you wholeheartedly that is %100 wrong, and i also agree they shouldn't be forced to perform same sex marriages or rent out their halls/churches for same sex marriages, because that undermines their religious freedom, as these places are religious in nature and therefore should be protected. And any attempts to curtail such rights are wrong, and i'll be right beside you in opposing them.

I'm not "anti-religion" I actually belong to a religion, what I'm against is religions trying to influence laws. Plain and simple, end of discussion. Seperation of church and state is vital because there is more than 1 religion in Canada.

How does gay mariage set a precedent for polygamy? What's super-fun-fantasitcally ironic is that if polygamists ever do make a play for legal recognition, it wil be on the basis of religious freedom (that's why the B.S. cops won't go after Bountiful's Mormon polygamists).

And really: what's wrong with polygamy, anyway?

(did you mean to type "B.C. cops", or was "B.S. cops" deliberate? )

I was actually kind of enchanted with an idea that Sparhawk raised earlier: why should the government recognize *any* marriage? Why not use the phrase civil union in a legal sense, and leave government completely out of the marriage biz?

As for polygamy... I've got no personal objection to consenting adults entering whatever arrangements they're comfortable with (but I do object to girls being raised as brides and married off at the age of 12, which is why I think the RCMP ought to go into Bountiful with flamethrowers and bulldozers... but I digress.) However, my support adults being able to live their lives as they wish doesn't extend to wanting to extend spousal benefits to every union that calls itself a family.

-k

I got no problem with multiple parner marriages, as long as everyone is cool with it, I wouldn't like to see it become the norm but that's just my personal feeling and i'll not force it on anyone else ;)

As for arranged marriages I'm not a big fan of that either but once again only my opinion, the only way I would condone interfearing in that is if someone threatened their child or their child's arranged spouse because they refused to go through with it. And even then it wouldn't be a marriage issue as much as it would be a legal one. It's my opinion that religion should be chosen, not forced.

It is a fantastic day!  I wish the haters like Argus could relax a little though... this legislation will have absolutely no effect on anyone who isn't gay!  Congrats to all that it does affect though!!!! :D  :D  :D

Yes, along with Melanie and others, I too have made it to his hate list. But we're not the ones who suppress free speech. We'll let him carry on with this bile and sweeping insults.

You should have kept "Deleted" as the only comment. It's the first - and last intelligent thing you've had to say.

Anyone who thinks they're important enough to me to actually draw hatred has a vastly overexagerated sense of self importance. However, given the political zealotry of some of you I can understand your desire to think you were actually important in some way, for whatever reason.

I would suggest, if you can, amongst yourselves, gather together enough brain cells to do so, that you examine why I am invariably polite to people who are polite and respectful, and not to - well, people who insult me.

I know it's a stretch, but give it a try.

Case in point. Can anyone imagine why I wouldn't be respectful towards a rabid little twerp like Brison, who is only still on this site because we on the right don't bother to report his obscenity laced hissy fits?

Best to ignore posters that cannot post anything related to a topic and only use vitriolic criticisms as their stance. While I am a fan of one-line zingers, at least kimmy and Black Dog have got the brains to be funny about it.

The problem is, comments like this

You should have kept "Deleted" as the only comment. It's the first - and last intelligent thing you've had to say.
are quite seriously, trolling. Nothing of substance, just kindergarten-level insults. If they were funny, or showed even the slightest bit of irony or sarcastic wit, it might be a different story. Instead, it wastes everyone's time and detracts from and derails any discussion of the actual topic.

Try making some sense in your posts?

Boy, you try and inject some humour in to the proceedings and this is what you get. Let me explain: I'll go slowly so you can keep up.

1) You praised ralph Klein for "sticking to the redneck ways."

2) Redneck is a derogatory term, usually used to describe backwoods hillbilly types.

3) Other than intolerance, other behaviours popularly associated with rednecks include inbreeding (ie. incest) and bestiality.

4) I opted to point out the irony in praising "redneck ways" which, presumably, would include such stereotypical redneck behaviours as inbreeding and sex with farm animals, in a debate over same sex marriage when both incest and bestiality are two components of the "slippery slope" argument against SSM.

Yes, I've only reponded to his posting once or twice and got totally obnoxious answers in return littered with obscenties, and insults.

Thing is, he purposely targets lefties with criticisms that he is exactly guilty of and refuses to substantiate any of his claims.

I thought the days of Craig Read were over.

its mostly my fault. I should not have named anyone. Its pretty obvious who the group of people was that I was refering to. My apologies.

I caught that you dimwit, what I simply meant aren't you an advocate for human rights and not insulting people with stereotypes???? Yet you have the balls to throw shit at me like calling rednecks inbreeders???

I believe if people have a cause, like you and your buddies tend to say they do, you should stick to it and make sense of what you're saying, not flipflopping like your last post was.

So don't look down your nose at me you arrogant weiner! Irony or not, I was saying I was proud of Ralph Klein for sticking to his guns(aka redneck ways), and not bowing down to the mouthy ingrate minority cause jumpers.

So, if you have something you believe in and post about it all the time, don't come back to me with your "ironic insults". Hasn't anyone told you, two wrongs don't make a right?

And by the way, if someone calls me a redneck, I take it as a compliment. To me a redneck is a hardworking, no BS, straight talker. No hidden agendas and wear their hearts on their sleeve. For you to use redneck as an insult or a derogatory term, you are no better than the people you love to refer to as bigots! At least we stick to our cause and don't flip flop on our beliefs like the mighty ditherer himself!

Did you hear than everybody, the world's greatest human rights defender, using derogatory terms to call Ralph Klein and the right wing movement inbreeders and buggers!

Now that is IRONY!

Good job Black Dog!

If you're going to wear the label proudly, you should consider the baggage that comes with it.

Hate to break the news to you sunshine, but Ralph is out of options on this one. He can strike a defiant pose for the benefit of the hometown crowd and his base, but there's not a damn thing he can do to stop gay mariage aside from scrapping marriage entirely. Given his impotence with regard to this decision any defiant rhetoric emanating from Klein is simply him "bowing down to the mouthy ingrate cause jumpers" of the religious right.

And by the way, if someone calls me a redneck, I take it as a compliment. To me a redneck is a hardworking, no BS, straight talker. No hidden agendas and wear their hearts on their sleeve.

Redneck

For you to use redneck as an insult or a derogatory term, you are no better than the people you love to refer to as bigots!

Give me a break. there's nothing in my lefiy handbok that says my tiolerance needs to extend to the intolerant.

Did you hear than everybody, the world's greatest human rights defender, using derogatory terms to call Ralph Klein and the right wing movement inbreeders and buggers!

Actually, since you were the one who used the term redneck, with all its accompanying conotations, technicallly, you called Ralph Klein and the right wing movement inbreeders and buggers.

How about these: ignorant, reactionary, close-minded, , easily led, primitive-minded, superstitious, gullible...

This is a lie. I almost never use obscenities of any kind, unless it's bullshit. And the only thing I can recall from you is repeated whining about my not producing proof that an obviously made-up "interview" with Anne Mclellan was real. Since in this "interview she talks about her party and their supporters having no principals I foolishly assumed everyone would realize how obvious a fake it was. You were and remain too anal to accept this.

you forgot populist...

No I didn't. Populism is a good thing. It means sticking up for people's rights. The Klein government has a populist venerr, but is no more populist than the Martin Liberals.

'FlipFlop' may have fooled the people south of the border but I don't think it will play here... you may want to stick to 'Ditherer'... it already has momentum that you want. ;)
