bigdude Posted June 8, 2005 Report Posted June 8, 2005 How CanWest Helped Elect Campbell and Company Chretien's Liberal government made a major improvement to democracy in Canada by disallowing federal political donations in excess of $5,000. with the idea that the business community were no longer going to be able to buy elections. Oh yes, unions too were going to be prohibited from donating, however their donations were so small compared to business probably between 10 to 1, or 100 to 1 ratios in favour of the businees world that I don't know why they bothered with the unions. Unfortunalely though Canada's media have the principles of gangsters and are drunk with their power. I am looking forward to the day when Canadians will say enough is enough, and legislation will be brought in across Canada to disallow our media to have any connection to any political party in the country. Chretien also ironically waited at the very end of his last mandate... Quote

Whoa, whoa, whoa! You're making a very serious and unsubstantiated allegation here. The Journalists that I know abide by a certain set of ethics and like everyone else are innocent until proven guilty. If you have any information or evidence of the fantastic claim your are making, bring it forward. As for disallowing the media to have any connection with any political party, exactly what "connection" are you refering to ahnd just exactly how are you planning to legislate against it? Are you saying that organizations like Canwest_global or Bell Globemedia would not allowed to have any official relationship with the Conservative or Liberal parties? Well, here's a news flash...there is no "official" relationship now! Or are you speaking about not allowing individual journalists to have any contact with individual politicians, which would convene the principle of freedom of association, which even pre-dates the Charter of Rights? Sorry, but only a society with the principles of gangsters would allow legislation like that. The media cannot mislead anyone if people take on the self-responsibility to remain informed on the issues. 'nuff said. Cheers! Quote

bigdude Posted June 10, 2005 Author Report Posted June 10, 2005 Don't make me laugh too much - journalists whether they work for the private or public mainstream media throw their ethics out the window the moment they begin working for organizations like Canwest or the CBC. It is about time for you to start living in the real world, pal! Quote
