takeanumber Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 On the whole, if Canadians return an enhanced Liberal-NDP minority, as is the most likely possibility based on the latest numbers, then the Cons just handed Martin a big 'get out of jail free' card. There won't be an appetite for an election after Gommery by next January should there be an election in June. In effect, the parties will be extremely weak (save the BQ, which is going to get yet more money) and weary. Moreover, there would be a change of leadership in the Conservative party. Disastrous. The Cons really have managed to screw this all up. Quote
I Miss Trudeau Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 Disastrous. The Cons really have managed to screw this all up. You know, this entire fiasco really demonstrates why the Conservatives should not be given the keys to 24 Sussex. They were given a gun, plenty of ammunition, and the Liberals lined up neatly in a row, and all Harper could manage is to shoot himself in the foot. Pateris Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 Latest poll data shows that 63% of Canadians think Martin is dishonest, compared to 29% for Harper. Dishonesty is a VERY hard impression to reverse. Hopefully the slide is beginning. Quote
kimmy Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 On the whole, if Canadians return an enhanced Liberal-NDP minority, as is the most likely possibility based on the latest numbers, One notes that at the time the last election was called, a Liberal majority seemed like the most likely possibility. Disastrous. The Cons really have managed to screw this all up. as Pateris mentioned, you might want to hold off ordering those party hats. CTV: Good News For Liberals Who Love Bad News Highlights: -Conservatives regain slight national lead over Liberals. -Conservatives regain slight Ontario lead over Liberals. -Martin seen as the most dishonest leader by 63% of Canadians Good News/Bad News for the Liberals in Quebec. Good news: they're back in 2nd in the hearts and minds of Quebecers. Bad news: they're 40 points behind the BQ. Legitimate good news for Jack Layton, who seems to be seen in a negative light by the least number of Canadians among the national party leaders. I've maintained for a couple of weeks that the Liberals regained the lead in the polls because the Conservatives have taken the focus off of the Gomery inquiry by causing all of this election speculation, not because Canadians have changed their feelings about either party. And I think the most likely explanation for this latest poll is that Canadians still haven't changed their feelings toward either party, but have now grown used to (or bored with) the election speculation. -kimmy Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
ScottBrison Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 What a clueless couple, this Harper & Duceppe duo. They deserve each other. All they do is criticize with narry an attempt to make our country work. This is a pitiful exhibition by very mean-spirited politicians. A pox on both of them!Harper is screwed and might as well through in the towel now. Imagine allying with the the separatists! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I couldn't have said it better myself. Quote
