bigdude Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Article Earlier Monday, deputy leader Peter MacKay raised the prospect that there might not even be a spring election. The Tories and Bloc Quebecois may not be able to muster the numbers to defeat the Liberal-NDP alliance in the Commons, said Mr. MacKay, who suggested a defeated no-confidence motion would be better than none at all. “Somebody has to hold these arrogant Liberals to account,” he said. Mr. MacKay didn't say it, but a failed non-confidence vote could give the Tories an honourable exit from the highly charged impasse. As I suspected all along this is all smoke and mirrors - the Tories don't have the numbers to defeat the government, and when the by-election is held in Newfoundland in the later part of May, the 24th I think, the Tories will have even less of a chance of bringing down the government. August1991 Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Why are the Liberals and the NDP so afraid of an election? Last year at this time, PM PM was just aching to call an election. Quote
bigdude Posted May 2, 2005 Author Report Posted May 2, 2005 This is all bluster on Harper's account. Everyone knows this is his last kick at the can and he can count - he knows he hasn't got the numbers. No one is afraid of an election but why waste $300,000,000. on BS. PM Martin has already said he is calling an election 30 days after the report on the scandal has been made. I suppose you think that the Tories should be the prosecution, the Judge and the Jury, all in one. This must be the Tories idea of justice. Why wait for the evidence, we can't get our way, so let's have vigilante justice. Most Canadians don't want an election, and most Canadians want the deal between the NDP and the Liberals. I know that listening to the people isn't one of the Tories strong suits but this time the Tories are just gonna half to wait. Fortunately some of our politicians do believe in listening to Canadians. Quote
