betsy Posted June 1, 2018 Report Posted June 1, 2018 (edited) Canada will retaliate. They say the new surtaxes for some American products will start in July. Okay......what are the good American buys? I might need to stock up before the surtaxes apply. Costco? Anyway.....how much more would it cost? Cents? Dollars? I mean....if it's only a few cents more.....to make the long story short: What American products do you normally buy? Edited June 1, 2018 by betsy Quote
betsy Posted June 1, 2018 Author Report Posted June 1, 2018 Here are the proposed products. Quote Scope of countermeasures The products subject to countermeasures will be drawn from those listed in Tables 1 and 2 below. Goods selected from Table 1 will be subject to a 25 per cent surtax or similar trade-restrictive measures. Goods selected from Table 2 will be subject to a 10 per cent surtax or similar trade-restrictive measures. These countermeasures will only apply to goods originating from the U.S., which shall be considered as those goods eligible to be marked as a good of the U.S. in accordance with the Determination of Country of Origin for the Purposes of Marking Goods (NAFTA Countries) Regulations. These countermeasures will take effect on July 1, 2018 and will remain in place until the U.S. eliminates its trade-restrictive measures against Canada. The countermeasures will not apply to U.S. goods that are in transit to Canada on the day on which these countermeasures come into force. The list of products outlined at the heading, subheading or tariff item level in Tables 1 and 2 should be read in conjunction with the Schedule to Canada's Customs Tariff. https://www.fin.gc.ca/activty/consult/cacsap-cmpcaa-eng.asp Quote
angrypenguin Posted June 1, 2018 Report Posted June 1, 2018 Does this affect all aluminum and steel? For example, aluminum is in deodorant. Will the price shoot up too? Quote My views are my own and not those of my employer.

Quote Steel and Aluminum Tariffs Could Leave Canada’s Housing Sector on Shakier Foundation Rapidly rising costs for construction steel come as housing market is cooling Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced matching tariffs on U.S. imports: 25% on steel and 10% on aluminum. The retaliatory tariffs, which are set to begin July 1, could push the cost of construction steel to as much as C$2,000 a ton, Mr. Lyall said. That means developers in Toronto building a 30-story condominium tower that uses 2,000 tons of steel would face C$2 million in extra costs. https://www.wsj.com/articles/steel-and-aluminum-tariffs-could-leave-canadas-housing-sector-on-shakier-foundation-1528318798 Edited June 7, 2018 by betsy Quote
