ReeferMadness Posted December 6, 2015 Report Posted December 6, 2015 And how would I be arrested-on what charge with what proof? Have you ever been aboard a BC Ferry? I can't believe you'd post that. There are laws against dumping garbage in the ocean. And yes, I've been on ferries many times. eyeball Posted December 6, 2015 Report Posted December 6, 2015 Last time I was on the ferry there must have been close to a thousand people walking around with cameras. Somebody could see you and know what you did. And why the hell would you want to do that anyway? Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

Somebody could see you and know what you did. And why the hell would you want to do that anyway? Residents of coastal BC are, in general, quite environmentally conscious. BC Ferries is itself quite sensitive to negative publicity and would take a very dim view of people using its vessels as a platform for dumping garbage in the strait. Finally, if people are caught dumping something like a computer into the ocean, it wouldn't surprise me if the police might wonder whether they're trying to destroy evidence of something. bill_barilko Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 The simple fact is that No One stays on car decks @ night since not one of you has ever ridden BC Ferries you wouldn't know that. Quote
Guest Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 I used to stay on the car decks all the time. Too many people upstairs. Of course, I never saw anyone throw a computer overboard. Quote
Bonam Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 Hard drives are relatively small and if you're talking about personal or small business use, you're talking about retiring a drive or two every few years. Easiest thing is simply to keep them. If you must get rid of the drive, a simple format or using a free third party software tool for erasing/overwriting the drive will be more than plenty unless you've got really top secret information on there. I often sleep in my car on the crossing so I wouldn't have a clue if I was the only one down there or not. Now that I know there's someone sneaking around down there I'll keep my camera handy and sleep with one eye open. I guess it would be even easier to toss a foot over the side without anyone being the wiser wouldn't it? Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
