I remember posters on this board praising China as doing more than that evil Harper for their Greenhouse Gas Reduction.

Yeah about that.

http://www.hngn.com/articles/147290/20151105/china-coal-use-17-more-previously-reported.htm

China has been burning 17 percent more coal annually than previously stated, according to a new report published by the country's statistical agency. The new figure poses a bigger challenge to the Chinese government and could affect the Climate Change Conference scheduled for Nov. 30, The New York Times reported.

The report's findings indicate that the country's coal consumption has been largely underestimated. Apparently, there had been data collection gaps, particularly from small companies. With China recently promising to stop the increase in its carbon dioxide emissions by 2030, the new figure makes the responsibility of fulfilling that promise more difficult -- and more urgent.

I thought our new Overlord JT said he admired China for being able to invest in Green Energy on a dime.

I find it hard to believe that the country's statistical agency would publish anything without the explicit permission of the government. I wonder what the ulterior motive is.

Maybe they just want to go to Paris and say: "Hey guys, about that promise..."

I don't think any serious person expects China will alter it's behavior, or do anything whatsoever different, based on agreements.

The only way China is going to change, is if the west says we stop trading with you if you do not reduce emissions.

But the west is not going to do that, since the only way we can show that we are reducing our own emissions, is to continue to outsource the manufacturing to make the stuff we want/need to the east.
