Boges Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 (edited) I love how this story shows how the whole Internet Shaming thing can completely backfire. http://www.independent.ie/life/food-drink/food-news/dublin-caf-owner-attracts-the-attention-of-angry-irish-vegans-after-banning-them-from-the-establishment-34144818.html The battle between vegans and the White Moose Café in the city began when manager Paul Stenson posted a status on Facebook in August which was deemed offensive by many vegans. “Attention Vegans: Please do not waltz into out café with no notice and look at us like we have ten heads when you realise that there aren’t 50,000 items on our menu that suit your idiosyncratic dietary requirements. Our chef will be more than happy to prepare a number of dishes for you but a little heads up in advance would be appreciated,” Stenson wrote on the café’s Facebook page. Since the post, upset vegans have been leaving negative reviews on the café’s Facebook page and Tripadvisor listing. The manager has now launched a campaign against vegans as he believes the reviews aren’t representative of those who have visited the cafe. “I’m loving the negative reviews we’ve been receiving by every vegan who exists on the planet earth. The reality of the situation is that 100pc of these people have never even been in the café and are writing these reviews because they chose to take offense to one of my posts relating to the sense of over entitlement that vegans seem to have,” the post on White Moose Café’s Facebook page read. The café has now banned vegans from the establishment, which is on Dublin’s North Circular Road. I love this story. It also highlights the absolute lack of sense of humour some activists in this world have. Sort of like when you try to ban certain literature, it only makes it more popular. overthere Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 the story has 34000 likes on Facebook when posted, probaby far more now. Clever marketing by the manager. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
TimG Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 Clever marketing by the manager. The irony is it started with a sincere and polite complaint (our chefs are happy to accommodate you but...) but the reaction by vegans is what turned it into a marketing opportunity. Quote
