Do you think ALL candidates should be present at ALL debates, unless sick?? BTW, Aug. 6th, the first question on the economy goes to Justin and then to Harper, question on environment is from May to Harper.

First off, what are you even talking about? Contrary to left wing opinion, there are no mandatory debates, not even the ones that the CBC wants to host (though they will fully cover the others), and there are debates scheduled where all parties are planning to attend, so this entire thing is a false narrative. If I decide im holding a debate tomorrow, should ALL candidates be present? Who about the local radio station, or the legion hall, etc, so on and so forth. Nonsense.

Um..who said anything about mandatory debates, speaking of nonsense?

The NDP's insistence on a Mulcair/Harper confrontation in any attended debate is meant to emphasize this election is now between the existing gov't and the gov't in waiting, which also just happens to marginalize the Liberals participation as also-rans.

The question was should there be, the response seemed to assume there already are. Hopefully I won't have to keep 'splainin' other people's posts to you. Ask them.

There's a comprehension problem here - and it ain't mine. How you can be wrong so many times is a tribute to something, but I'm not sure what. How can you "seem to assume" mandatory debates when it was so very clearly stated:

You still don't get it but that's OK. Maybe re read.

There was a suggestion that there already are mandatory debates, or at least an opinion from "the left" that there are, which there are not.

You're making stuff up again and now you're trying to weasel out of your drive-by comments. Poochy clearly said..... THERE ARE NO MANDATORY DEBATES.......what could be clearer? Stop making stuff up and wasting everybody's time..

"Contrary to left wing opinion" his words not mine. Now stop wasting time.

That's because you're not doing it right.

You have to use some interrogative sarcasm, then add the suffix "splaining" to the main object.

ex.

Are you finished "explainingsplaining"?

Got it?

Again - stop making stuff up and then make more stuff up to try and cover your tracks. Again - quit while you're behind.

I can't think of any reason why he should have to. Who says which is the 'official' debate? Nobody. A thousand different groups could host one, doesn't mean anyone has to go. By not going, he risks public opinion, but that can go either way.

It does all come down to public opinion at the end of the day. If you chicken out of a debate it will likely hurt you. If opt in but you're not a strong debater then there is also a risk. In any case if you have a strong policy you should be able to lay it out and have others question it. After all it's what we pay them for.

I'm not saying the debates are mandatory, I saying if there are debates then ALL members should show up so the voters can hear what the candidates views are. Harper has never had an open debate to the public except on TV, were he can't control them. My riding even has a Tory MP, that doesn't like coming to debates and likes to skip out of them and the public let the guy know about it and he did show up at the last one debate in the last election. I'm sure he wanted to keep his job but its hard to defend his party leader.
