August1991
IMHO, this movie was miscast. Ryan Reynolds and Helen Mirren may be good actors but they are not good enough to pretend to be Jewish. Reynolds portrays badly an American Jew and Mirren misrepresents an Austrian Jew. (But if we are talking of casting, and Hollywood's portrayal of this part of European history, I go with The Pianist. Polanski cast his movie right.) I'm tired of misused GGI. IMHO, it's better to have old B&W images than fake CGI. A HD CGI motorcade of Hitler is worse than a low-res original, Polanski also got this right. I enjoyed this movie. It's well made. And the movie has a saving grace: the final moments when Helen Mirren's character walks into the ballrooom, among all those people she remembers. No doubt, others view heaven as such a place.
