Big Guy Posted May 30, 2014 Report Posted May 30, 2014 Canada spends between 5 and 6 billion dollars a year on foreign aid. Harper has just announced that Canada will commit an additional $3.5 billion between 2015 and 2020 for maternal health that will keep this country in the forefront of a UN push that has saved millions of lives in crisis zones and elsewhere in the past few years alone. It is generally accepted that this is a good thing. I wonder. http://www.preservearticles.com/2012030625147/what-are-the-main-consequences-of-population-explosion.html http://cidpnsi.ca/blog/portfolio/canadas-foreign-aid/ I wonder what problems are being created by our foreign aid policies. Millions of children are now reaching their 5th birthday that would not have. But what kind of existence are they surviving into? Poverty is rampant and creating major difficulties because the areas cannot sustain that population. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2011/jan/14/population-explosion-seven-billion Is the problem in Africa that we are trying to solve maternal health or overpopulation? The average number of children per family in Africa is 5. The average number of children per family in Canada decreased from 2.7 in 1961 to 1.9 in 2011. People in Canada generally have the number of children that they can afford – even with all of the social services available. Why are Canadians who are limiting their family size sending their tax dollars to countries who do not – to encourage having even more children? It may sound heartless but there are repercussions for messing with natural control methods. If we are successful in saving millions of African children every year then who is going to feed them? Who is going to give them homes and jobs? Who is going to educate them? Overpopulation cause societal unrest, expansionism and conflict. Are we creating problems that we will soon regret?
