1) Killing innocent people is wrong. Executing people who do that is right.

2) Not executing those who murder others cheapens the lives of their victims.

1) The state has killed many innocent people, so maybe just shorten this one to "Killing people is wrong"

2) Read number 1

What about him ? Do you agree that Robert Dziekański was "tortured" and killed or not ?

What about him? Both are cases of cops gone horribbly wrong. Well before any court ot jury was involved. The Oklahoma man was tortured and killed by the courts and by a savage law that went horribbly wrong.

Torture implies intent, so you cannot escape the parallel if that is your thinking. At least the convicted murderer got due process and years of appeals before execution...Robert Dziekański got non of that before being taser tortured and killed in Vancouver, and his only crime was not speaking good English (or French).

Past mistakes are not a good reason to stop doing the right thing. That's why we have more due diligence. That's why death row inmates get a series of appeals. That's why we have DNA evidence. When you have the right guy, all the excuses are gone -- remove the monster from society.

So what exactly is the true purpose of the death penalty. And please don't try and tell me it has to do with saving money.

The purpose of the death penalty is to execute persons convicted of capital crimes in a manner prescribed by law.

DNA has shown two things: that the US damn near killed a bunch of innocent people, and therefore in all likelihood, did kill innocent people. You want to remove monsters from society, then go flip the switch on the electric chair or stick a needle in someones arm in a death chamber. There seem to me to be a lot of people who will blather on about supporting death penalty, but if they ain't got the guts to be there and do it, then they oughta shut up.

Yes, DNA evidence is the safe guard we have now that we didn't have before. The reason to NOT execute has been removed.

If we had the death penalty here, I'd volunteer right away. I'd consider it an honor and a duty to remove these monsters from the planet.

What kind of gutless vanilla bs is that. The purpose is sick vengeance. Please understand I'm not supporting any type of crime or criminal. I loathe violence. And that's probably why I loathe the death penalty. Throw the bugger in jail. Keep society safe. No argument from me.And maybe think about shifting some of the costs of incarceration towards crime prevention. Even the State of Texas figured that out of all people. Well to a certain extent anyway. Good on'em.

And you're of course enough of an authority to know that DNA, and the courts are infallible? I don't think so.

Have you ever killed anybody?

I'm not about to start reiterating the same thing over and over. Bad cops do bad things. Sometimes they kill people. What the hell does that have to do with the death penalty?

The point is that what happened in Oklahoma was not torture or intended as torture. It was a legal execution that went wrong. The death penalty is still used in many nations.

I've never thought it was intended, but you could make a pretty good case that it could have possibly been anticipated, since these were aparently a package of drugs as yet untried for the purpose. At least that seems to be how close the state is playing it's cards to it's chest. And I know many nations still use it. I could send you a list but I doubt you'd like to be known associates of them. Let's see, just from memory we have Iraq, (remember them), Afghanistan, (remember them) Tonga, Bangladesh, you get the picture.

I already posted the list...including Japan, India, China, Indonesia, and Belarus. The majority of the world lives in nations that have some form of capital punishment (if my math is right).

Well then why don't you go to your toy chest so you can't hurt any real people.

YOU are the one who (falsely as usual) claimed no one would volunteer.
