overthere Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 Dalton had the brains to resign and fade into oblivion. It's Ford's continuing drug-addled delusions of grandeur that make him so interesting, like watching a train wreck replayed over and over again. . For people outside the bizarre affliction known as The Centre of The Universe, the reaction of Torontonians to Ford is more interesting. The train wreck is the relentless handwringing about how Toronto is perceived. How much do they think the world cares about Rob Ford or Toronto? Answer: not much. Quote Science too hard for you? guyser Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 How much do they think the world cares about Rob Ford or Toronto? Answer: not much. Enough for every single major paper and tv station to run a long piece on the guy. Do they care? Nope, but they care enough that it was entertaining and newsworthy. Quote
cybercoma Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 I think you judge columnists more by your assessment of their ideological purity than the quality of their writing.and you think she writes better than Coyne? Because that's what this aside is about. Quote
overthere Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 Enough for every single major paper and tv station to run a long piece on the guy. Do they care? Nope, but they care enough that it was entertaining and newsworthy. Lets look at that. The local rags run Rob Ford news items because they are owned by Toronto-based corporate entities. My paper had Ford covergage because it was free, cost 'em nothing to fill the paper as comapred to local news that costs money to accumulate. They also had news about Justin Bieber. It is comparable to sports networks like TSN and SportsNet(all Toronto based) running long stories across Canada about Leafs practices. It's the same old navel gazing nonsense seen for generations in the Canadian media. CBC does it too. It makes people from the GTA think the rubes give a shit. We don't. Yes lets, but we shall gaze the world over.....yup, they all covered it. It makes people from the GTA think the rubes give a shit. We don't.Sure you do, you commented on it and know all about it. Even rubes like to be informed. Signed , The Centre of the Universe. Quote
On Guard for Thee Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 and you think she writes better than Coyne? Because that's what this aside is about. Hard to judge Wente's writing accurately as you can't be sure exactly who wrote it. She's a contrarian in a similar vein to the likes of Anne Coulter in my opinion, although maybe not quite that bad, nobody is that bad. I much prefer Coyne. At least he hasn't been found to be plagiarizing other people's work so far as I know. I was surprised the Globe didn't dump her. Gion Gomeshi dumped her from "The Q" immediately. Quote
