Other first world cities hosted this thing for like $100 million. We're looking at $2 billion plus for these games.

It's likely a dress rehearsal for an Olympic bid and a lot of good infrastructure will come from it that likely would never have come to be if not the motivation of some kind of international event.

But still there are several examples of extraordinary waste of taxpayer dollars. The foremost is multiple people getting salaries of several hundred thousands dollars a year but still expense idiotic things.

Indeed, a whole new neighbourhood is emerging from mud in the Donlands. $100 million would barely cover just the roads being built.

Interestingly the officials admitted that the Athletes village wasn't part of the original budget which is why when it's all said and done this games could cost on the north side of $2 billion.
