On Guard for Thee Posted July 15, 2013 Report Posted July 15, 2013 The death penalty, I'll say it again, is no deterrent: many states in the US that have the death penalty have higher murder rates per capita than those that don't. It can amount to state murder: when DNA was proven to be effective it was used to exonerate a number of people on death row in Florida (not surprisingly mostly poor black men) and at a time when Florida was putting more people to death than even Texas does. I wonder how many of them were innocent. It's certainly not cost effective: by the time appeals process on a death penalty case has been gone through, a boatload more money has been spent compared to a prisoner serving a life sentence. And my bottom line is simply this, killing is wrong no matter who is doing it. Quote
