Topaz Posted December 12, 2012 Report Posted December 12, 2012 There's a 2 hour wait that the Windsor bridge and at the Blue water bridge because the Canadian border agent are being force to wear name tags but they don't want to for personal security reasons, which I can understand. Most security guard wear a number so I wonder why they couldn't? http://ca.news.yahoo.com/labour-dispute-slows-traffic-two-ontario-us-border-051438807.html Quote
cybercoma Posted December 12, 2012 Report Posted December 12, 2012 I have a friend who changed his Facebook name even because someone he detained at the border bumped into him later at a grocery store and it freaked out his wife. Quote

The ones I know are very conservative and supported the police during the G20 protests. Quote

Any argument made against the requirement for the border guards wearing name tags can also be made for the police……..and likewise the inverse. Quote

Bryan Posted December 13, 2012 Report Posted December 13, 2012 I can't recall... do our border guards have anything like a badge number on their uniform? Quote

Any argument made against the requirement for the border guards wearing name tags can also be made for the police……..and likewise the inverse. Police shouldn't be required to wear name tags. They need some identifiable marking on their uniform that's clear to read for accountability though. A badge number suffices. The problem is that the cops at the G20 removed or hid their badge numbers. Quote

Guest American Woman Posted December 13, 2012 Report Posted December 13, 2012 Another union doing what they do best. From what I've read, the union reps advised against refusing to work, so one can hardly put this on the union. Quote

Guest Derek L Posted December 14, 2012 Report Posted December 14, 2012 They are required to give a badge number if requested, but it doesn't sound as if it's visible. Well, I’d think the same rules for the police and border guards would be fair……..Take the bad aspects, with the good I suppose. Quote
cybercoma Posted December 14, 2012 Report Posted December 14, 2012 (edited) Police need to be identifiable in some way for accountability's sake, but they also need to be anonymous to protect them when they are off duty and their families. That's why I believe a badge number is fair, but I also believe they should be a hell of a lot more visible and easier to read than they are now. You shouldn't have to ask for the number. It should be plain as day on their uniforms. Edited December 14, 2012 by cybercoma Quote

They have a uniquely identifiable number, so they can be held accountable. You don't need to know who the individual person is other than an agent for the government, acting on behalf of CBSA. If you need to lodge a complaint, their uniquely identifiable number suffices. There is absolutely no reason you need to know what their name is, unless you intend on causing trouble. Quote
