cybercoma Posted November 26, 2012 Report Posted November 26, 2012 Apparently Mississauga spent $7M on an inquiry that had recommendations to update conflict laws. Toronto and Queen's Park both ignored it. Page 31: http://www.mississaugainquiry.ca/report/pdf/MJI_Report_Executive_Summary.pdf Those complaining that the judge who removed Ford from office was playing leftwing political games are wrong. The judge made a conservative decision by sticking to the letter of the law, rather than being progressive or being an activist and going against the written law or accommodating these recommendations in the ruling. The purpose of this thread here is a discussion on how these conflict laws can be updated because it's clear that they need to be. Quote
Merlin Posted November 26, 2012 Report Posted November 26, 2012 So will you left wing types stick to this stance of being tough on crime or will you fold once again? Is it only good to be tough on crime when it benefits you and your ilk? Quote
Boges Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 I heard on the news this morning that the Province is seriously looking at modifying the law to allow for more discretion in sentences. Won't happen until at least July. Way to late for Rob Ford, but at least it's obvious to most that automatic removal for any infraction is way too heavy handed. Quote
cybercoma Posted November 28, 2012 Author Report Posted November 28, 2012 Toronto has a weak mayor system anyway, so it's not like it matters. He's little more than another councillor. Quote
