TheNewTeddy Posted June 25, 2012 Report Posted June 25, 2012 I collected some data from all the budget estimate documents from all 10 provinces and then began to compare them. These are my results. Provinces% of budget from Royalties NL - 33.74% SK - 27.88% AB - 27.81% BC - 6.93% NB - 1.52% NS - 1.24% QC - 0.58% MB - 0.26% ON - 0.21% PE - 0.02% *QC - 4.71% (if Hydro revenues are counted as a royalty) % of budget from Equlization PE - 22.32% NB - 19.93% MB - 16.78% NS - 15.12% QC - 12.19% ON - 3.23% Months to pay off debt (IE if all revenue were dumped into debt repayment, how long would it take) ON - 23 QC - 21 NS - 17 NL - 15 MB - 14 NB - 14 PE - 13 BC - 9 SK - 4 AB - (6) [AB could operate for 6 months without any revenue by dipping into it's savings account] Interest on debt as % of the budget QC - 11.61% NS - 9.49% NB - 8.20% ON - 8.08% PE - 6.49% BC - 5.74% NL - 5.59% SK - 3.57% MB - 2.21% AB - 1.29% (one would presume AB has a net not gross surplus account) Interest on debt as a % of royalty payments PE - 36,666% ON - 4,103% QC - 2,129% MB - 889% NS - 804% NB - 550% BC - 84.26% NL - 16.28% SK - 12.71% AB - 4.74% Provinces that have over 2% of revenue from Royalties that collect Equilization None Provinces that have over 2% of revenue from Royalties that have a deficit of over 2.5% (compared to total revenue) None Provinces that have under 2% of revnue from Royalties that have a deficit of under 2.5% None List of provinces that collect over 5% of their total revenue from Royalties: BC, AB, SK, NL List of "have" provinces BC, AB, SK, NL List of provinces that collect under 2% of their total revenue from Royalties MB, ON, QC, NB, NS, PE List of "have not" provinces MB, ON, QC, NB, NS, PE I'd like to spark a discussion as to how the have-not provinces can become have provinces without royalties.
