TheNewTeddy Posted June 9, 2012 Report Posted June 9, 2012 In 1972 the existing government of Northern Ireland was disbanded and replaced in 1973 by a new government. This was a complete change, and, it also created new districts, or, municipal level councils. Part of the reason for the change was that the Catholic, Irish, and Nationalist community had been, by in large, disenfranchised by the Protestant, Scottish, and Unionist community; this being especially true at the municipal level. While the Northern Ireland wide government elected in 1973 was later abolished, and only replaced by a lasting alternative in 2007 (with a good strong attempt in the late 90's) municipal level governments ran from 1973 through to today. Why the history lesson? Well finding election results since 1973 are easy. Almost every district was changed in 1973, but some, like Belfast: http://www.ark.ac.uk/elections/lgbelfast.htm Still exist. However, finding election results from before 1972 is very difficult. I'd like to find said results, but need some help on where to look and who to contact. Once I do find said results, I'll post it here of course, in a summarized manner, maybe with maps. Quote Feel free to contact me outside the forums.
