Guest Peeves Posted April 30, 2012 Report Posted April 30, 2012 (edited) Public sector costs are out of line..pensions,including politicians, sick days, waste and taxes take OVER 40 % of our income. More than on goods and services! It's revolting. So lets! BTW... Todays the last day to pay/file income tax...without penalty. http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/video/tax-on-tax/1613909933001 Edited April 30, 2012 by Peeves Quote

punked Posted April 30, 2012 Report Posted April 30, 2012 Are you not going to explain anything? He hates taxes and wants all schools, health care, Employment insurance etc. Handed over to the private sector so instead of paying that money to the government we pay EVEN MORE THEN THE 40% to private businesses who offer less then our government does. It is that simple. Quote
Guest Peeves Posted April 30, 2012 Report Posted April 30, 2012 (edited) Who? Over 40% of our income is now going to taxes. More of our income than we spend on housing, food etc combined. Some, as on gasoline, we are paying tax on the tax that is on it before we buy it. Anything you buy now is with an after tax (43%) dollar which means it's worth less in buying power than ever. It also means more of our earnings..40% + is controlled by your government..I find that deplorable and they waste billions! Sorry, the link let you hear all that from the video it linked to. All you were complaining about was you paid too much tax. Well I pay too much tax too. So? And yes, large organizations, including government, waste money and are inefficient. General Motors used to be compared to the Kremlin, for its massive bureaucracy. You know any way to run this country with a few score people? btw, the one thing the interviewee mentioned was that 'until recently' public servants used to get 20 days of sick leave a year and could cash them in. I'm going to assume by 'recently' he means, 'until a few decades ago'. Smallc Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 Over 40% of our income is now going to taxes. What? No. The economy is taxed overall at about 30%, lower than it was in the past. Quote
dre Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 What? No. The economy is taxed overall at about 30%, lower than it was in the past. Depends who you are. If youre a pampered privileged Corporation I think tax freedom day is in February, but normal people its in June. That may average out to about 30% but for most people its a lot more than that. Smallc Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 (edited) but normal people its in June. No it isn't. That's such a bunch of bull. If you live in Manitoba, the highest taxed province west of Quebec, you pay less than 1/4 of your income in tax. The other taxes don't come anywhere close to an average person making about 40K per far, paying 40%. That Fraser institute tax freedom day, is such BS. Edited May 1, 2012 by Smallc Quote

On Sun News Network they said the average family, which I think they said makes 70 odd thousand, would pay 40%+ between provincial/federal income taxes and municipal taxes. I guess they probably include sales taxes as well. Quote

THe Fraser Institute IS definately well known for being full of shit. However, 40% is definately close for me, and June is about right. Quote I question things because I am human. msj Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 Then you're not an average person. The average person makes $45K per year. Yep, and in BC that person would pay about $6,633 in combined federal/BC income taxes. Even if one included EI and CPP we are talking about 21% being paid out in income taxes and CPP and EI premiums. I do have a client who made $626,000 last year. His tax bill was about $248,000 which is pretty close to 40%. But he's pretty rare - a guy making the top 0.3% of income and it happens to be T4 income. But youre only talking about income taxes... thats just the beginning. If that person owns a home he could pay a few thousand in property taxes as well. And of the 30k they still have left, if they spend it all on consumption they will pay a few thousand more there. If they drink or smoke, or burn fuel then theyll pay a bunch more. If they drink or smoke, or burn fuel then theyll pay a bunch more. Sure, it depends on many factors. My wife and I are, at best, top 1% ish earners. I pay property taxes on 3 properties (2 business offices, 1 residence) and I can tell you that even then our total tax bill each year approaches 30% but not 40%. Of course, if you're a married senior couple then you are extra lucky - one couple came in and complained because they were going to lose ~$2,000 of the GIS (guranteed income supplement pension) because their income was too high in 2011. Their income? About $42,400. Their income tax bill? $234. No, I am not exaggerating. Sure, they had quite a bit of medical expenses - about $3,000 total - which cut their taxes down by about $480.
