Topaz Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 Ontario, if passed will bring in protection for cell phone users, which would allow the consumers it cancel a contract. I don't how some of these people with cell phone can pay for their phones. Some are are as high as %$80.00 monthly and that not counting any add-ons or the use of internet. God, help you is you miss payment, before you know it you could be up to the hundreds of dollars. No wonder consumer debt is growing. I do have a cell phone but I only use it for travel, in which I have pay as you go. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/technology/tech-news/ontario-to-adopt-consumer-cellphone-protection-plan/article2399811/ Quote
Hydraboss Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 Why the hell would anyone take on a contract they can't afford, and then expect the government (read: taxpayer) to bail them out? That just doesn't make sense. Quote "racist, intolerant, small-minded bigot" - AND APPARENTLY A SOCIALIST (2010) (2015)Economic Left/Right: 8.38 3.38 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 3.13 -1.23
Boges Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 I think the limit on cancellation charges is a good thing. Let's say you got an iPhone and realize you really can't afford the data. To downgrade you have to renew your contract for 3 years, the get an upgrade you have to renew your contract for 3 years. Well unless you actually want to buy the phone at cost. I remember I wanted to cancel my plan with Rogers and they threatened to charge me $400 plus tax. Good thing they offered me a pretty good deal to not cancel. Once you're with a carrier they sort of have you by the balls. This will give the carriers more incentive to keep people because they know that cancelling the plan will now not be totally prohibitive. Quote
