As I read more and more about the abuse over years, recently Ireland and other European communities I wonder that parents were not alerted by the boys or that some priests weren't found out and hanged.

Boys castrated by Roman Catholic Church as homosexuality cure

The Daily Telegraph ยท Mar. 20, 2012 | Last Updated: Mar. 20, 2012 3:04 AM ET

At least 10 teenage boys or men under the age of 21 were surgically castrated "to get rid of homosexuality" while in the care of the Dutch Roman Catholic Church in the 1950s. Evidence of the castrations has emerged amid controversy that it was not included last year in the findings of an official investigation into sexual abuse within the church.

NRC Handelsblad newspaper identified Henk Heithuis, who was castrated in 1956 while a minor, after reporting priests to the police for abusing him in a Catholic boarding home. Joep Dohmen, a journalist, found evidence of at least nine other castrations. Sources told Mr. Dohmen that the surgical removal of testicles was regarded as a treatment for homosexuality and as a punishment for those who accused clergy of abuse.

The consequences to the priests and the church itself does not fit the horrific crimes committed.

Time for western nations to have judicial inquiries in to the conduct of this organization and bring them to justice.

All true, and yet I'm still bemused at the apparent lack of reporting by the kids or parents. That puzzles me given the enormity of the offenses.

Why? Religion poisons everything

That's a generalization. Could say the same thing about politics, science.

Religion does much good as well.

What is factual is that there a some politics, science and religions that bear watching and perhaps even controls.

Evidently you are all in blissful ignorance about the general societal attitude towards homosexuality during the 1950s. It was still considered to be a psychiatric disorder, and it was illegal in most of the world. What you are doing is denigrating the modern Catholic church because of the attitudes it possessed in the 1950s, even though those attitudes were typical of society at large.

That includes accusations of sexual abuse, which were almost entirely ignored by society, regardless of whether they were made against teachers, coaches, parents, doctors or whomever. The more 'respectable' the person being accused, the more condemnation the accuser would face.

I think that's a bit extreme. There are like problems in any group in society, ( sports, scouts, teachers etc.) however, the church above all is expected to be a sanctuary from sin, and held to a higher standard. If any org. is guilty of abuse they are to be prosecuted. The church, by cover ups is the worst example because it is preaching and condemning the sinfull from a pulpit.

Sorry I think the church is getting what it deserves as the worst possible example.
