UofGPolitico Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Many people rail against this party and rail against PM Harper as controlling and undemocratic and feel most of his minsters are mere puppets. This may be the case in some instances, but there seems to be some ministers that seem to be above that fray and relatively untouched by scandal and accusations of incompetence. I would say Jim Flaherty has established himself as a fairly competent finance minister and one of the better representatives for this government. Regardless of whether you agree with his ideology, I think most Canadians would say he is doing a decent job. John Baird, often seen as a pitbull in QP (especially when he was House Leader) also seems to have a fairly good reputation and that seems to be growing as now he is the influential Foreign Affairs Minister. Who else comes to mind? Quote
olpfan1 Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Flaherty? the same I don't see Canada in a recession Flaherty? LOL Quote
Topaz Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Oh please! In my view the only respectable members are the members that went up against what Harper stood for and voted against the party lines. I know for a fact there are backbenchers that don't agree with Harper but to save their job and pensions, they don't stir the water. Quote
olpfan1 Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Theres a few cpc senators that are against the marijuana mandatory sentences in the omnibus crime bill now that is respectable Quote

Lisa Raitt impresses me when I see her in interviews. Although he is a parliamentary secretary Chris Alexander deserves a mention. He doesn't impress me as much as I thought he would but I think that is because he is usually trying tomake up for Peter MacKay, has some tough issues in his hands and is technically a rookie despite his background. I agree about Raitt, she is very competent and I think she is going places. Future leadership aspirations maybe? Alexander I think has done very well considering his rookie stature. He'll make cabinet in 2015 if the Cons win again. Quote

TheNewTeddy Posted March 6, 2012 Report Posted March 6, 2012 You know someone is a "good person" when, the more you learn about them, the more you like them, as oppose to dislike them. Flaherty is one of these people. Quote Feel free to contact me outside the forums. Add "TheNewTeddy" to Twitter, Facebook, or Hotmail to reach me!

mentalfloss Posted March 6, 2012 Report Posted March 6, 2012 None of them should be respected, but Flaherty and Diane Finley are very good liars. Quote
