Moonlight Graham Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 Tried to start reading the New Testament. Seems it's kind of full of b.s. like everything else. From Matthew 5, Jesus says: 31 “It has been said, ‘Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.’ 32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery. Say wha? This is likely the very verse that made it so difficult for my parents to get married within the Catholic Church. Daddio was divorced, big no-no!!! I guess I'm a child of sin or something 2 sentences after the above wacky verse Jesus goes on to say some famous verses I like, ie: love thy enemy, and 'turn the other cheek'. Btw, the disciple "Matthew" did not write this gospel as it is often attributed to him, and it was thought to be written about 90 years after Jesus' death by a Jewish intellectual who obviously didn't witness any of it. This is typical of the other 4 canonical gospels. So how the balls can you take any of it seriously? Moonlight Graham Posted January 28, 2012 Author Report Posted January 28, 2012 oops, this was supposed to be posted in the "religion" thread. Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect.
Topaz Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 In the news of late, it has been said that the Bible has been translated over and over through the years and no one is sure what he original Bible said. So Jesus may not have ACTUALLY said that. Quote
Moonlight Graham Posted January 28, 2012 Author Report Posted January 28, 2012 So Jesus may not have ACTUALLY said that. I think that's an understatement! Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect.
