cybercoma Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 In Fredericton, NB there is a blogger, Charles LeBlanc, who is quite familiar with controversy. This summer he spent much time outside the Fredericton Police headquarters shouting slogans and accusations on a bullhorn. He has called various politicians and police officers fascists, etc. Yes... he's that guy. However, recently the police raided his apartment, seized his computer, and charged him with criminal libel. Libel is usually a tort case. From the article below: "University of New Brunswick law professor Jula Hughes tells the Fredericton Daily Gleaner it is very unusual to pursue libel as a criminal matter, even in Canada. In such a case, she says, the burden is on the defendant to prove the truth of his allegedly libelous statement." [emphasis mine] At the root of the issue is that the "City of Fredericton is sending a message that nuisances will be silenced, and that people should think twice about taking on the state." He has called various politicians and police officers fascists, etc. Yes... he's that guy. Hmm...the same people or persons who felt maligned conducted the raid. Da poor widdle powiceman got his butt hurted... In a time far from now..."Case dismissed! " The thin blue line is as thick as anything, but the actual police almost to a man are the thinest skinned babies I know. And some fo them I call my friends. Sad really what they have done to themselves. Edited January 26, 2012 by guyser Quote
guyser Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 (edited) His side :So apparently he called the Police Fascists and acting like the KGB Police response: Send 8 Policemen to raid an old guys house to seize his computer. I suppose it could have been an IBM 704 computer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_704 Edited January 26, 2012 by guyser Quote
cybercoma Posted January 26, 2012 Author Report Posted January 26, 2012 It's sad, really. Imagine everytime someone called Harper a fascist, he sent the RCMP to their home and confiscated their computers, then charged them with criminal libel. I don't agree with LeBlanc. In fact, I think the guy is a bit disturbed, but the cops just confirmed everything he has been deriding them for. Quote

In fact, I think the guy is a bit disturbed, but the cops just confirmed everything he has been deriding them for. It's where we are going. "What are the differences between Mark Zuckerberg and me? I give private information on corporations to you for free, and I’m a villain. Zuckerberg gives your private information to corporations for money and he’s Man of the Year.” – Julian Assange Quote Ideology does not make good policy. Good policy comes from an analysis of options, comparison of options and selection of one option that works best in the current situation. This option is often a compromise between ideologies.
