I just wanted to give credit where credit is due. Peter Kent has intervened in an issue and shown the type of strong environmental leadership that the Conservatives are capable of, finally delivering on their promise. Even Justice Trudeau showered Kent with compliments via his social media pages: "This is the courageous leadership and decisive action we need from our Enviro Minister."

Are you joking? Kent intervened because the government has been saddled with huge amount of red tape created to appease enviros. If anything, his actions are a repudiation of the enviros who are constantly pushing for more and more red tape to restrict what people can do with their own property. Edited by TimG

The Minister of the Environment is repudiating environmental measures!?
Which is why I assumed you are being sarcastic. In any case, endlessly increasing regulations is NOT the job of the "Minister of the Environment". The job of the "Minister of the Environment" is find the right balance between leaving people and businesses free to do what they want and protecting the environment. Edited by TimG

What are you talking about, Tim? All I'm saying is that the man is a hero. He saved this poor goose, a family pet at that, from the slaughter. Good for him. Can't I give credit where credit is due?

Did you notice that the goose was only facing slaughter because out of control bureaucrats driven by regulations demanded by environmentalists? He deserves credit and you could even argue that cutting red tape is "environmental leadership" but I don't see it as the type of leadership that you support.

I would like a link showing where these regulations were demanded by environmentalists because the article certainly doesn't say that.

Hey, what Kent did was a good thing and now other Canadians know if they have the same problem they can call on the minister. Now, if he can get the job done and save the rest of us from the pollution within the country that would be great too!

From the orginal article:
Conservation officers had initially told Ms. Vander Wiel that she would face a fine under the Migratory Bird Convention Act, but Mr. Kent waived it.
I think it is fair to say the "Migratory Bird Convention Act" exists because it was pushed by environmentalists.

TimG makes no distinction between conservation and environmentalism... he conveniently wraps both into his oft stated, "enviro-loon" labeling. Of course, nothing shows the hypocrisy of a hard-core anti-environmentalist more than pointing out the strong advocacy and historical associations that hunters have with habitat and wildlife conservation.

so here we have an enforcement of existing conservation regulation... an individual exploiting social media... mainstream media playing up a 'feel good' narrative... and a government minister with obvious time on his hands. Baby steps, Peter Kent... baby steps!
