prairiechickin Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 I've travelled around this country a fair amount, and everywhere I go there are very cool bands playing in limited local markets, and often as not the rest of the country never hears about them unless they stumble upon them during a festival or a tour. I discovered Fred Eaglesmith in Ottawa, Hot Toddy in New Brunswick, Mark Green in Newfoundland, and Little Miss Higgins here in Saskatchewan. If they are ever anywhere near you live, check them out. So what are your picks for local bands that need a shout-out, or live acts that are worth seeing? Any genre, all flavors welcome, just don't say Nickleback. They should go back to Hanna and work on a new sound. Quote
fellowtraveller Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 Danny Michel is very good, Dan Mangan not bad either. FYI, Fred Eaglesmith has worked literally every corner of Canada for decades now. He could start a second career as a comedian. Quote The government should do something.
Jack Weber Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 Phatstick in Hamilton and St.Catherines... Quote The beatings will continue until morale improves!!!

I should have qualified Fred and the rest with dates. I first saw him back in the early '90s when he wasn't as well know. And you're right, he's a funny funny guy. Quote
GostHacked Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 Not so much bands but individual artists. DubFX (beatbox sampler live producer) put on one heck of a show. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dub_FX And I got to see Prince this year. Simply an amazing show. Quote
WLDB Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 I saw Paul McCartney back in July which was really great. Im a huge Beatles fan so he was a must see. Also saw The Tragically Hip last summer for the second time. When it comes to new stuff I think The Sheepdogs were the best I saw in 2011. I saw them twice. Im going to see The Sadies next week. Quite an underrated band. Quote "History doesn't repeat itself-at best it sometimes rhymes"-Mark Twain
