There is no such thing as "common sense" so in other words you guessed Edited November 29, 2011 by olp1fan
guyser
so in other words you guessed No not at all. Are blockbuster shows scheduled to start at the same time as the Academy Awards start? Did popular TV shows take a hiatus when the Olympics were on ? Does ABC sched a ratings winner when the Super Bowl is on? COme on, think about it a bit. An AD buyer wants the most for the least. So he pays a premium for Academy Awards/Super Bowl/Olympics and that leaves him little money left to buy ad time on HGTV's "My FIrst Sale" . The NHL avoided a ratings disaster, which of course would get mentioned when the next round of renewals comes up. Reallly quite simple. Then why didt the NHL schedule games during Canadian thanksgiving? they weren't worried about losing ratings then Edited November 29, 2011 by olp1fan
guyser
Then why didt the NHL schedule games during Canadian thanksgiving? they weren't worried about losing ratings then Apart from afternoon football games, it made complete sense. Eat, get stuffed , clean up and couch it whilst watching a hockey game that night. Ratings bonanza. Not to mention it is our holiday . blueblood
Well, that was a big FAIL How so, the experiment isn't done yet and the links say we have growth. Doesn't sound like a fail to me.
blueblood
Every team that has ever gone bankrupt was at one point run by a successful businessman. It's not the be all and end all, but gate revenue is the single largest chunk of the NHL pie. It's why Phoenix is failing, why Atlanta failed and why the sunbelt teams are struggling financially. Of course, you omit the fact that all the Canadian teams have individual deals with local/regional broadcasters. The key difference between Canada and U.S. markets is Canadians show up, win or lose. That's a pretty bogus false choice. You tell me. And every successful businessman had to sink some money in growing his company. Same as when Edmonton Calgary and Ottawa were struggling and Quebec and Winnipeg version 1 failed. Economy determines gate revenue along with prestige of the product. Right now the NHL is on an upswing. And American teams have local/regional deals, it's a wash. Canadians didn't show up in the nineties. And didn't show up for the grizzlies and expos. Read my links of NHL vs. NBA on attendance. The NBA is also significantly gate driven and there are venues with pathetic attendance numbers.
