Smallc Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 People do understand that an MPs job doesn't end at the Commons door's, I hope. Quote
wyly Posted November 25, 2011 Report Posted November 25, 2011 (edited) sleeping on the job?...usual result is termination of employment...FPTP is how we end up with slime balls like anders, in a PR system he wouldn't make the cut as one of Calgary's 8MPs, even the conservatives of his own riding hate him, he's an embarrassment to the electoral process, the PM had to come to his rescue to prevent Calgary West riding association from replacing him... Bonam Posted November 25, 2011 Report Posted November 25, 2011 Would it really matter if MPs slept most of the day and only woke up when a vote was called? They are all just vote bots for their party leader's positions anyway. Quote

They are all just vote bots for their party leader's positions anyway. Which really is a - if not the - major problem with our system right now. We don't need a republic or electoral reform to fix this, as some people have suggested; we really must look at giving caucuses more influence over the selection of their respective party's leader, so that the leaders, including whichever one is prime minister, will be more accountable to the House. Bonam Posted November 25, 2011 Report Posted November 25, 2011 What we need is to do away with the concept of a "whipped vote" and let individual representatives vote based on their own principles and/or in the interests of their constituents. Quote
olp1fan Posted November 25, 2011 Author Report Posted November 25, 2011 (edited) lol @ this story, I don't buy it one bit Calgary MP Rob Anders says the reason he fell asleep in question period earlier this month is because of a recent car accident. A YouTube video of Anders nodding off in the House of Commons on Nov. 17 has become a sensation online. In an email to a constituent who had inquired about the incident, Anders said he was rear ended by an 18-wheeler and the resulting whiplash is taking a toll. His constituency office has confirmed the accident happened, but there are no details about when or where. Edited November 25, 2011 by olp1fan Quote

cybercoma Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 What we need is to do away with the concept of a "whipped vote" and let individual representatives vote based on their own principles and/or in the interests of their constituents. That won't do it. There will still be a tacit rule about voting with the party. Even when the vote is not whipped, the party brass can make life miserable for the MPs that go against them. Quote
