Either way I pay so I would rather it be done on my income tax. In a way, the PC's in Alberta do this when it comes to provincial sales tax. By that I mean that needed gov't revenues come from incomes rather than on the use of services/products. I think they have been very intelligent to do it that way.

I also like their idea to have a statement of costs go to everyone but perhaps this has been too expensive to implement. Hopefully, they will some day be able to do this automatically via computers and email.

Thanx for the link, it was quite informative! Under this system, I would pay $156.00 less per year so not a huge decrease. It is very funny that the system I was suggesting/describing sounds a lot like this one. I think they have done a great job here though I believe that they lied to Ontario voters before implementing it. If I am not mistaken, they said they would never do such a thing?

At least income tax is graduated properly for the most part in Alberta.

The premiums are not. (Senior Citizens eating cat food, earning 10 grand a year from pensions, do not qualify for the subsidy (little though a 60% subsidy, which kicks in a 8 large).

So they have to pay 44 bucks a month, which is quite a bit of money for somebody earning 800 dollars a month.

Klein's entertaining budget has gone up 7 percent in the past year.

It's kind of amazing...the arrogance of this government.

But, yet again, Albertans will get the government that they deserve.

Who knows Take, I think we switch governments every 30-40 years or so. It may get interesting yet. ;)

I think the perception is that the more blue we elect, the greater the opposition to the feds we will present. Diversity of opinion is generally regarded as a weakness that may hurt our interests. Until the economy crashes, this party can relax.

I think he knows that Martin has really retreated on the whole healthcare file.

This is bad for Martin.

Klein just wants to accelerate the process.

He'll walk in, say, 25%, and then bully the liberal like he likes to bully liberals. (only that Martin isn't a woman, so he might not feel as comfortable as he does in Alberta he bullies.)

He'll say, "How much?"

And Martin will say, "Well, we can..."

Klein: 25%?

Marin: "If you'll let me fini...."

Klein: So 25% then?

Martin: "It's much more, haha, much more..."

Klein: So 25% it is.

Martin: "Well, over the long run...."

Klein: Well then, when you start putting more money into healthcare like you promised in the next election, then you'll have the right to sit at this table. But if you're not committed, this is just a waste of time.

And that's the bet that Klein is making.

Martin is posturing against big change.

Klein sees it.

He wants to win the fall election with a boom.

By sticking it to Martin, when Martin seems uncertain and nuanced, he'll do just that.

takeanumber, on this we agree. Martin is backpedaling and Klein has aces.

The feds need to buck up on healthcare. I hope Klein gets support from other provinces.

Good article today (Vancouver Sun) on physician movement in Canada, it seems Alberta has become the magnet and favorable government was sited as the reason.

Wow. We agree on something.

Let me go change my pants.

Ah. Better.

Well, Alberta has really low taxes. The provincial tax is flat, so physicians can work as long as they want and not get hit on the provincial side, or get hit double regressive for it.

So that's always a bonus.

I'm not big on the Pharmacare program though. It should be split 50-50; not this 'here feds, you take care of it' type thing. i think the Globe was right when they said that it's just a trojan horse, but meh. There might be good economies of scale to it.

(Incidentally, a terrific trade weapon canada could use, then lose the trade war on, would be drug exports. A lot states depend on us; imagine if we slapped huge export fees? rourrrr.)

Anyway; I'm not happy with Dosanje, and I'm really not happy with the Liberal gang bangers or the Con Possy at the momment.

The feds need to close the Romanow gap, pure and simple.

And the feds got the money. Less needs to be going to Quebec and ACOA and WOA patronage scams and more into health.

But whatever.

Martin hasn't had a chance to back pedal on his health care promises. The premiers think that they can decide what the feds should do. I do not agree on their pharmacare program. Based on the BC one it will hurt a lot of seniors as it has done here. I think that we need our healthcare delivery improved first. That will mean more than the feds giving the provinces more money. Here in BC our tuition fees have risen; student grants have been done away with. Where are we to get more doctors. We should be paying for the training of qualified students with the requirement that they work in the all round type clinics suggested on salaries for a number of years to repay their training. I understand these clinics would be more efficient and of course much easier for the patient than running all around town for x rays, MRIs and to consult specialists.

Irregardless, I would not want the feds to hand over more money without any strings attached.

UBC added 72 seats to the medical school this year and they are full. They may need to add more but the problem is not empty seats in our universities.

They covered this the Vancouver Sun today. We in BC are attracting physicians from eastern Canada at a good rate.

By the way the largest growing expense in managing healthcare has been new drug treatments. If the feds took part of that expense it would bring them up to 25% and they could negotiate from the strongest position with drug companies.

Of course, after all we are paying them the most while cutting everyone elses wages or replacing them with minimum wage contract workers. An average 50 thousand a year raise is outrageous when others are having their wages cut or jobs contracted out
