Scotty Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 Do I assume then that though from the outset it seems to me that everything is fine and dandy in our multi-cultural society....there is a simmering resentment - which is an understatement considering the strong words coming from one or two posters - underneath the current? That chances are, these are not just isolated sentiments held by said community members....but rather held by many who are just too Canadianly-polite that they try to keep these feelings in check? I hear it all the time, from people who are not at all political, really. I know several couples who have moved to get their kids away from schools which are overrun with immigrants, as an example. The Board of Education has had trouble trying to control "white flight" from several immigrant heavy schools, esp high schools. Quote It is an inverted moral calculus that tries to persuade the world to demonize one state that tries its civilized best to abide in a difficult time and place, and rides merrily by the examples and practices of dozens of states and leaderships that drop into brutality every day without a twinge of regret or a whisper of condemnation. - Rex Murphy
Tilter Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 (edited) I was very surprised when UK PM Cameron bluntly stated that multi-culturalism doesn't work. Quite a bold move for a politician. Perhaps a realist? OK, sometimes it does. I have 3 Daughters in law, 1 Canadian born, hard worker family oriented, raised 2 kids didn't always have a lot of bux but worked to make it work, One Chinese, 8 yrs in Canada, hard worker family oriented, raised i kids alone (deserted by husband who preferred China) , no financial from him, now married to my son, 1 more kid and they now owns 2 (with the bank ) didn't always have a lot of bux but worked to make it work. Another D-I-L, Japanese born, Artistic, hard worker family oriented, now raising 2 kids, they don't always have a lot of bux but worked to make it work now has design consultant business. All 3 are great ladies and are doing what they can to fit in as new Canadians. Edited April 23, 2011 by Tilter Quote
Tilter Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 you display the same attitude that prompted my grandfather a guest worker in pre war germany to pack up his family and leave...xenophobia maybe common but it not healthy or right... I'd guess that your G'father regretted that for a second or 2 & then clapped himself heartily on the back. Quote
