eyeball Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 (edited) Surely you recognize that there is a matter of degree among the nations of the world. Not on the matter of universally declared human rights, which many dictators your country supports not to mention your country have breached. Now as for the threads title and OP...Arab League turns back on Ghaddafi...now backs a no-fly zone in Libya. It figures that the Arab League is happy to leave the mess in Libya up to the west to deal with, it's too busy militarily supporting the dictatorship in Bahrain against a democracy movement. Is should be safe to assume we'll be imposing a no-fly zone there too, but given that we in the west first have to decide to which degree we'll apply or uphold our own principles it's anyone's guess who's side we'll be imposing it against. Post To The Left Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 (edited) Libya unrest: UK forces 'could be in action by Friday' It looks like China and Russia the traditional blockers of western ambitions are going to abstain rather than veto a no-fly zone. But will it be too late? Even if Libya's jets can't provide air support how is going it to help the rebels, a bunch a guys with AK-47s, fighting a trained armed force? That said a student of history might look back at Rommel's advance across the exact same land, as Gaddafi's forces have travelled, and you'll see the same things that spelled the end of the Desert Rats' advance. Over extended supply lines with the opposing force having a very little distance to supply troops. If the no-fly zone goes up then again Rommel was pummelled as he lost air support the closer he got to British airbases and the further he got from German ones. Always remember that when you are in the right you can afford to keep your temper, and when you are in the wrong you cannot afford to lose it. - J.J. Reynolds. Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location? The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).
