maplesyrup Posted June 17, 2004 Report Posted June 17, 2004 What is Le BQ strategy? Don't ever forget what their goal is: Quebec Independence The collapse of the Liberals may well be playing into their hands. So what is Le BQ hoping for in this election to help them in their march towards Quebec independence.? Quote An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It's being able to differentiate between what you do know and what you don't. Anatole France
willy Posted June 17, 2004 Report Posted June 17, 2004 The Liberals don't have a good track record of bring Quebec back as a federal partner. The last two major referendums on sovereignty were under guess who, the Liberals. It was Martin who was part of the government that was almost defeated in the last referendum and he holds his seat in Quebec. I like a Canada with Quebec, with a little less fiscal imbalance, and some respect for provincial jurisdiction. Maybe we can have a long future with all the federal partners if we follow a new model of federalism. Hey Maplesyrup, where are then NDP on giving the provinces some space to make decisions. Oh ya, they want to get into delivery of health care, education and City planning. How do you think that will go over with the soft federalists in Quebec? Quote
BQSupporter Posted June 17, 2004 Report Posted June 17, 2004 We hope for 60 or more Members of parilment from Quebec. We hope for a real parilmentary inquiry into the sponsorship scandel. We hope for inquries into the CSL scandel. We hope to know what happen to the money in the E.I program. We hope to correct the fiscal imbalance that does not benifit Quebec. We hope to help and support business in Quebec. We hope to get Quebec more of its money from ottawa. We hope Quebec will get control over most of its affairs. Lastly we hope in time the people of Quebec will realize that Quebec will do better outside Canada instead of in it, but that will take time. But for now we hope to get everything we can get out of ottawa for Quebec after that we don't care. Quote
August1991 Posted June 17, 2004 Report Posted June 17, 2004 The BQ must justify its presence in a foreign parliament. Merely defending the interests of Quebec will not be enough. That would imply that Canadian federalism can function as long as federal MPs are true to "Quebec's interests". In the English debate, Duceppe made the remark about 74 of 75 MPs in Ottawa "and we saw what happened there." I wished Harper had said, "But they were Liberal MPs." I hope this forum will not become infected with the Quebec disease - le mal québécois. (Believe me, if you think left vs right is tiresome, you haven't seen federalist vs nationalist.) The BQ wants the independence of Quebec and it would like nothing more than an apparent stark divide between French Canada and ROC. This was the PQ's strategy in 1979 before the 1980 referendum. Will it work? I doubt it. I'd like to see Harper negotiate in the name of ROC a decent deal with Quebec. Trudeau's dead and can't fart on the cake. But what I see rather is Dion on the scene. With that, my crystal ball kind of goes blank. If the PQ gets into power, and if the PQ holds a referendum (circa 2011), I don't see massive support for an option that involves lobsters and traps anymore. Trop peu, trop tard. Ça prendra une tête à Papineau, Mercier, Bourassa (Henri), Lévesque. Dieu sait qui. C'est une épopée dans le fonds. Quote
