Smallc Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 the thing is not all plastic bags will be recycled...if a paper bag isn't recyled it turns into compost...I do my part I sort and recycle in the appropiate places... The new recycling plant in winnipeg (which does the recycling for the entire province of Manitoba) can't handle plastic bags. From what I hear, many new systems are the same. In order to process other things better, plastic bags had to be left out. Quote
guyser Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 That's just it: my consumption of plastic has gone down considerably. Commendable. Mine hasnt. I need them,ok ok, I havent found an alternative. Did you know the bags from Metro Loblaws et al, have not only increased in size, they are now twice as thick as when they were free? There is the same amount opf plastic going into the dumps. The 5 cent tax has been a huge boon to the bottom line of the stores, and they have kept almost all of it. Quote
Molly Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 There's more plastic used to wrap a single pallet (or hay bale, for that matter) than I use in a year. Bags are ubiquitous, but they aren't the beginning and end of plastic waste and pollution. Quote "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!" — L.
