maplesyrup Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Tories hide true agenda, Martin's officials insist Our social order sliding: harper essay. Prime minister says Conservative leader fails to reprimand MP for comments on abortion anne dawson and peter o'neil CanWest News Service Wednesday, June 09, 2004 Liberals virtually abandoned talking about their platform yesterday and stepped up their campaign of directly attacking Stephen Harper. Prime Minister Paul Martin attacked the Conservative leader for not admonishing an MP for her extreme views on abortion, while Liberals also trotted out a little-known essay in which Harper urged Canada's political right wing to "rediscover" social conservatism and reverse the societal "nihilism" that was destroying the country's moral fabric. playfullfellow Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Yep, real scary essay MS, he should be hung and burned in effigy for promoting "family values" in an essay. What could he ever have been thinking? This kind of scare mongering just doesn't cut it anymore. Quote
Argus Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Prime Minister Paul Martin attacked the Conservative leader for not admonishing an MP for her extreme views on abortion,I wonder if Martin admonished the Liberal MPs sitting behind her on the stage and applauding. Alliance Fanatic Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 What about the Liberal MP's view on abortion. Why is'nt Martin punishing them. Jean Chretien was smart his answer to questions about abortion and gay marriage was always the same, free votes, Chretien always won. Martin is probably going down as one of the worst prime ministers in history because he is making gay marriage and abortion an issue, were as Harper is not. Alliance Fanatic Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Yeah, how dare Harper say that we as a country should value the lives of children, how dare Harper say that this country should strongly believe in the importance of strong families in this country. I guess raising the age of consent to 18 is so "evil" nowadays, you know so that parents can prevent their children from getting molested by a pervert 40 year old trucker. I was watching Law and Order yesterday and a pedophile was having a party with children at his mansion, and the first thing that the dectectives said was "What, having a party because they lowered the age of consent". So True. By the way MS try finding the whole essay instead of just a newspaper clipping. Quote "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others" - George Orwell's Animal Farm
maplesyrup Posted June 10, 2004 Author Report Posted June 10, 2004 Abortion, gay rights questions plaguing Harper But after Harper finished his statement and took time to answer questions from reporters, he was peppered with queries about his stance on social issues rather than on his newly-unveiled platform.Harper has had to spend much of the campaign trying to douse flames set by Conservatives candidates who have commented on contentious issues ranging from gay rights to abortion. In the latest such remark, Frank Luellau, the Conservative candidate for Kitchener-Conestoga, told The Globe and Mail that homosexuality "is not a natural kind of relationship" and that it is the "constitutional right to freedom of religion and freedom of association" for a religious group to fire or refuse to hire gays and lesbians. "(The Ontario Human Rights Code) says if you are a religious organization, you have the right to discriminate on the basis of your faith," Luellau said. A reporter was jeered by Harper supporters while asking about the comments. But Harper answered, "Gays and lesbians should enjoy equality and enjoy a reasonable protection under the law that the rest of us enjoy. "Every member of our government will treat people equally ... any member that can’t do that will be removed." With gaffes on social policy continuing to plague the Conservatives, former Progressive Conservative leader Joe Clark -- who refused to join the newly merged Conservative Party and who is not running in the election -- said the new party is showing its true colours. "It is quite clearly, almost defiantly, not the Progressive Conservative party," Clark said. "I've found in campaigns, you really can't hide who you are." I guess these issues sre not going to go away anytime soon. Quote An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know.
